Don't know about Calais but we drove up through France from Spain to La Baule last week and the cheapest diesel was €1.419 and that was at a supermarket.

Had one for 5 years many moons ago. Now starting again.
Carrefour at Cité d'Europe is €1.419 this morning. That's 6 cents cheaper than the ones right by the autoroute beside the tunnel.
Intermarché and Auchan in Calais the same price.

does it really matter ?

the savings in one fill up is neither here nor there in the cost of the trip.. a drop in the ocean
You are quite right there, Jim. I think the subject is of interest because of historically cheap diesel prices in mainland Europe and France in particular since this was the closest destination.

What are the prices like in Belgium?

Let's hope the French get less tax from the tax hikes. People just avoid it if it becomes too expensive.

Have been visiting France for over twenty years. Was always the norm to fill the car or van with diesel before returning home. On our return home a couple of weeks ago the price was to expensive. A first. Sadly French prices on many things over the years have gradually got more expensive.

Still love the country.

Saw diesel in U.K. at week end £1.35 so it would make France look cheap, we only played £1.23 on Thursday

Don't know about your van but mine tends to stop when I avoid putting fuel in it:)

ASDA is currently at least 12p per litre cheaper than BP. We have witnessed over £1.30 today

It is true. M. Makron, eco-warrior, saw fit to raise the diesel price by around 15c/litre in January this year. 'Green' is always a damned good excuse for governments to increase revenue....;)

I am amused by this thread, if the price of fuel in the UK was being discussed it would be "Rip Off Britain" but as it's France we politely blame their government!

Those ageing BBC newscasters/presenters have a lot to answer for :)

Hi Matamoros - whereabouts in La Baule are you? and how long are you staying there?

The reason I ask is that we depart for St Malo on Saturday for a 6 week "early summer" tour of France and (according to current plans - which do change from time to time) we will be at Camping La Falaise in La Turballe for a few days towards the end of June! :)

We are between La Baule and St. Andre des Eaux, we will be here until around the 10th July, La Falaise looks a lovely site although we have never stayed on it we visit La Turballe regularly.PM me when you are anywhere near, we regularly have excursions in the camper for one or two nights, there are some lovely aires in the area.

Basically correct. Prices of all carburants increased be 10 centimes / litre on 1 January 2018. This was to pay for increased government expenditure (and reduce my income tax to virtually Nil) It is now cheaper to fill up in the UK before touring around in France. Still cheaper in countries surrounding France, I suspect.

The BP station off the end of the A20 in Dover is as cheap as anywhere. We fill there before getting on the ferry now, we used to fill at Grande-Synthe in Dunkirk, not worth the bother now.
