From Boudnib we drove to Figuig staying at Hotel Figuig. we stayed there two days and left this morning, not before visiting the old border crossing with Algeria, I managed to get a pic of the border and Algerian flag

We are now at the most easterly point in Morocco a small oasis town of Ich, it is between Figuig and Bouarfa, we are wild camping in a carpark here, the military have been over to get a fishe and check our passports and take our registration, he says it’s ok to stay the night, will take a look around shortly this is another town that has a border with Algeria.

Short vid of today’s drive, I noticed the same ditch/barricade running along the border with Algeria, we took a walk around the old ksar “with an enteragre of the local kids” and the disused border control building pics above if anyone comes here bring plenty of sweets,we had around 20 nippers later thankfully we had plenty

We are now at Bouarfa, in what appears to be another military town, very large and very modern, lots of shops, market etc,
We are at Hotel Climat du Maroc parked on the tennis court, we were on our own but have been joined by a cpl of French. we’ve only seen an handful of vans over this way, you also get use of the hotel shower and ehu thrown in, and it also has a bar,
Tomorrow we head north on the N17 towards Oujda, then along the N16 and med coast.

update: From Bouarfa we headed to Ain Benimather along the N17 the road is brand new to Tendrara then it’s in good nick to Ain Benimather, the wind was blowing the Saharan sand all over. note to self put external covers on over fridge etc

we wild camped outside of the town next to a mosque for travellers, there’s a spring water fountain and toilets. there was two other french vans there.
The day after we headed to Marjane in Oujda and onto Saidia another border town with Algeria, very modern with a marina and lots of apartments and bars and restaurants. my guess is it’s very busy here in the summer

Seems you're the only Funster left in Morocco Marc! Seen any other Brits?

Wonder what happened to the OP? Hardly ever heard from them after they had crossed over to Tangier.

Hi Terry, yes seems i’m on my lonesome as far as funsters go, yes the op and his group were very quiet, i heard they got to Assilah lol and fell off the radar, I guess they were having such a good fun they didn’t get the time to post,
We have seen only 8 other vans over the eastern side, some we’ve bumped into a few times, all French. we are now in Al Hocima loving this side of Morocco especially the N16 La Rocade Mediterraneenne. fab drive.
See you both next year Marc & Sam

Well after 84days we are waiting for the 5pm FRS ferry out, we’ve had a great time and really enjoyed doing the eastern side, the N16 road in particular,
From Sadia we wildcamped at Cap de l’eau, and then Beni Bouyafar the military came around here and asked for a fiche, a lot of the wild camps we asked either the police or the military who said no problem, all along from

Oujda to Al Hoceima we see the diesel sellers selling Algerian diesel usually about 1dh cheaper although i did see it near the border about 3dh at 6.5dh a litre
We then headed to Al Hoceima guardian parking at 20dh word of warning very steep hills,

we then spent 2 days wilding at Torres de Alcala, and 2 days 6km along at a campsite in Cala Iris.

yesterday we was at guardian parking in Oued Laou 30dh
but it started raining late last night and the forecast is in for a while, there was a barragem we were going to stop at but Spain is calling as the rain is falling
So it’s with sadness we leave 5days earlier than planned, was nice meeting up with old and new friends alike,
and hope to see you all in 2019
Be Lucky
Inshallah

Has anyone done the P4105 from Chefchaouen to Oued Laou? We're thinking this December of driving Tanger Med to Martil, then through Tetouen to Chefchaouen, then returning to the Mediterranean coast at Oued Laou , then continuing along the Mediterranean.Just not sure about driving the P4105 in a 7 m Hymer.

Not done it ourselfs so asked on Overlanding Morocco, it’s a site we use a lot if not sure, we had a reply from one of the more informed member, saying “should be ok, despite being P road, it’s pretty wide and not so twisty”
This chap has been pretty good to date with regards to road info,
Regards Marc & Sam

Hi Hotelman Not sure what the weather is like in Jan/Feb as the east side is on a plateau of 1000m and barron for most of the way, we encountered westerly sand storms from Algeria for large parts of the N17,
Possibly better doing on your way out of the country, ? I could be wrong, enjoy your trip

We found it is better going anti clock wise in Morocco.
Starting from Asillah ...
Going beginning of January ie new year for 90 days .... .
Then to Gibraltar and decide East or West depending on the weather forcast

Yes agree. Even in Morocco it can get cold in the winter months, especially in the mountains and on the eastern plateau. Eastern side will be better the later you do it.

Just a heads up for everybody thinking of going this winter, a new thread Morocco 2019 has now been started.

Might work out cheaper to change company. You can buy ins at the port but for a scooter it was very expensive around £25 / £35 a week. ..

Saga has given us a free green card so far.

I definitely agree with routing, I think its better to go down the west coast and then back up the middle.

@SUGGY are you the guy with the spin drier?

The idea appeals to me but not to my wife, I'm hoping that once we are a few months into our adventure, she will come around as we gain in confidence although 2019 is more realistic. I will thought watch this thread develop with interest.
My wife was exactly the same but once she gets there give her a few days and she'll wonder what was she worried about.

I reckon buying insurance at the port wouldn't be worth the paper (if any) that it's printed on'. just saying.
