Took the Triumph down the tip where it belongs..Well I would have liked to but I could not take the £12k hit !

After 640 miles from new I decided I simply could not live with the thing.. Put in part ex for a 2016 R1200GS with all the toys.

Riding the BM home was a revelation .. Within 3 corners and a roundabout I felt I was back home.. By the time the roundabouts on the Thetford bypass was reached I had toes scraping on the first one and pegs on the next.. Deep joy and peace to all men.. I was chuffed to errrr .... bollards ? Well happy

Oh, and when I looked closely at the Triumph ( 640 miles and kept in a warm dry garage ) an awful lot of fasteners were already starting to fur ....

Due to the age ( lack of ) the dealer agreed a trade in price site unseen.
When I got to Norwich yesterday the weathering cost me a further £300 and I have the BMW dealership paperwork to prove it..

Sadly since my brain fart last May, I am no longer that good at making progress, though no adverse comments were made last summer while riding with the Blue Knights lads, so maybe I am not as bad as I think.
Only time will tell I guess..
Got a school day at Misano in August which should sort my head out.. Free practice in the afternoon .. Track record is 1m 31s. I will be happy with a 1 40 nowadays !

You have said before that Triumph did you over and made it completely clear you don't like them. No need to bash the brand if you don't like the brand. If the "weathering" has cost £300 for a bit of "furring on the fasteners" that is ridiculous on two counts. Firstly the bike won't have furred in 630 miles unless it's lived in the sea and secondly £300 knock down by the dealer... really... a dealer take the pi@& and not give you what they agreed....
If by some miracle "furring" had occurred (which I doubt very much after 640 miles) then it's a simple warranty claim to the company you dislike through the dealer you got on with from whom you purchased it off...
I would have told the BM dealer (or any other dealer) to get stuffed if he tried to knock me down 300 quid on a bike...
Please enjoy the BMW, enjoy the track day, whatever time you post but please stop slagging a good British brand off because you didn't get on with them.
If I had "furring" on any bike or car with 640 miles on I wouldn't be slating them on a forum, I would be having a strong chat with the warranty person at the dealership to get it "sorted". All brands can have QC supply issues, it's how they deal with it that matters.
If the dealer / manufacturer doesn't sort the issues out THEN it's time to make it public.
Finally... to be completely transparent... yes I do work a lot for Triumph so I have a vested interest in the brand. BUT.... I would say the same thing about any brand, bike, car, van, Polish car wash, talk to the dealer / Owner/ MD... to sort any issues before slagging them off on a forum....
The quality of Triumph is widely accepted to be very high within the bike industry, maybe not as high as some but hardly in the "furring @640 miles" land....

My 2011 R1200GS twin cam triple black is sadly not looked after anywhere near as well as it should be by me, always preferred the mechanical side to the cosmetic, so it’s serviced really well, got my own GS911 to do it. In the seven years I’ve had it I should think I’ve washed it about ten times and never used any kind of protective substance, the only corrosion is on the front engine cover bolts that look a bit furred up. I may treat it this year to a good strip down clean and some ACF or something.
I do very little miles on it now but wouldn’t consider selling it, each time I go out it just feels right.
Now, what’s the weather like tomorrow?

Not all BMWs are corrosion free. I had a 650 Scarver Single, they were notorious for the paint falling off the motor. But it was beautiful inside and did an amazing job of destroying back tyres, I didn't expect that from a 650 single.

That's the one, grand engine but nonetheless it had BMW cast into it.

Later, BMW had it made in China, that went well pair shaped. It had a fault whereby you'd stop to fill up and no way would it start until the engine as stone cold again. It took them ages to correct it because not all of them had this trick.

And then there was the electronic suspension debacle. Loads of BMW owners told to stop riding now because the rear suspension was breaking.

On the other side, I'm sure Jaws will remember cracking Triumph frames causing them embarrassment.

No machine is perfect. And don't we MH owners know this.

I will not stop reporting the truth.. No matter how much it might erk you..
I had so little success with Triumph over other matters I was not going to waste any more of my life arguing with them to get issues resolved.. The dealer in question has probable traded me 40 or 50 bikes through me since 2000 and was really embarrassed by the situation.

I am perfectly willing to accept my bike may well have been a 'Friday afternoon' jobby, but to besmirch my character by suggesting I am lying is simply not on

I would be more naffed off with the dealer... having made money on you for the last 40 bikes or so he should have swallowed the "furring" and gave you what had been agreed. Still can't believe furring happened in 640 miles... I have had Triumph bikes with 40k on ridden in winter and still no furring....
When it all went wrong, when you tried to supply Triumph and it cost you money I am surprised you ever gave them garage space again..
A good dealer isn't embarrassed by a situation, they apologise and get it sorted. Most people don't spit "the dummy" if they have an issue with a bike, motorhome or car... they try and get it sorted fairly, not take a financial hit and flog it, that really is the last resort when you have gone down every other avenue.
I guess now you are Trumpet less you can relax and enjoy the BMW & we won't need to cross swords again. You like BMW & I like Triumph (I also like BMW & for my sins KTM BTW) but I choose to own one of Hinckley's best.
If the BMW goes "furry" or has an issue please go and see the dealer... if they don't know you have an issue they can't fix it on future models.

Must admit I am a bit, since I’ve had mine it’s had a new clutch, new front master cylinder, new fuelling system, ignition system, I’ve had to have the paintwork redone and I’m sure the engine is going to have come out next. Are Triumph interested in providing any warranty work? No.




Thought I’d better add it is a 1976 Bonneville.

To start off with it is the Triumph dealer ( who used to be a Honda Solus dealer... and I had all Honda CBR1100XX's from them ) who was somewhat embarrassed by it all,, not the BMW dealer who I bought the GS from

I am NOT most people.. Until 3 years ago I was trade ..I sold up the businesses as one big going concern.

Look up Blackbird Spares or Jaws Motorcycles.. All still trading and just opened another double fronted shop north of Manchester

I am big enough and ugly enough to stop flogging a dead horse, accept I made a cock up and move on.

Why should I get all snotty and worked up about £300 on a deal that lost me £3k any way. Best to swallow the few quid extra and get the deal done.

BTW, not a particular fan of Panzers .. they just do the job when it comes to carting my ageing bones across continents.

No... nothing to do with my relationship with the company. Flame me as you wish but I am merely pointing out the facts in this case.. Donald Trump and Russia see the the " truth" in different ways.. Jaws sees it in his way and I see it in mine. Before I worked for the company I owned Trumpets and my response would have been the same.

That is particularly negative. Why ?

Give Bloor his due, he had a dream and sank a shed load of money in bringing back a UK brand/industry. I think the early bikes were not up to Jap standards but today's bikes look up to scratch. What do you know that I don't know. I nearly bought a sh Street Triple but I could not inflict the pillion seat on my wife, it looked a real fun bike. That was a 675, I think it is a bad move to increase the size, it's just not needed.

It's not that long before the world's number 2 race series will be running Triumph engines. The UK has pulled the rug from under the mighty Honda.

Nothing. Just my opinion.

I've seen nothing recent from them that would tempt me to part with any money with the possible exception of the new bobber but having seen one up close, although I haven't ridden one, I have a strong suspicion that it's style over substance. It would have to be very very good and I'm not so sure it is.

A neighbour of mine has a Tiger ( the smaller one, is it 800 or 900? I forget) and a Speed Triple, both newish. I've had a good look at those as well and they do nothing for me at all.

I very very briefly looked at a Sprint a couple of years ago but dismissed it in seconds.

Mr Bloor may have sunk a load of money into his dream of reviving an old British brand but that doesn't automatically mean everyone has to love it.
