Does anyone know of a company that would give travel insurance (Medical) to someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. i.e. terminally ill!!
My sister-in-law would like to go on a Mediterranean cruise but cannot find anyone to insure her.

Not sure that you could rely on medical staff on board, in every eventuality. Recent case of a lady offloaded from a cruise in Mexico, needed 2 stents fitting in local hospital and got a bill for about £50,000 - had not realised that her insurance was Europe only

I would encourage them to go for it but find a specialist insurance company that can give appropriate cover - sorry I cannot help

Have to agree with Busby, life is all too short, add a terminal illness into the equation and everyday sensible thinking would for me go straight out of the window.

We had a similar situation with my father in law, after is 70th birthday his travel insurance quotes went through the roof, i told him why worry just go if some small happens we can deal with it, if the worst happens and you died abroad it certainly won`t bother you.

I use Nationwide Plus Account travel insurance for both of us..I am 73 next and pay an excess of £90 for 90 days travel ,,,twice a year,,,plus of course the bank monthly fee but also get breakdown and a couple of other benefits,,BUSBY,,

Could I respectfully point out that Cruise lines will not take anyone on board who does not have insurance. No Insurance and they won't take you.

As to the question posed in the OP I have it in the back of my mind that we were told some time ago by a friend in similar circs, (admittedly, not terminal) that the various Charities concerning cancer have information and leads that will get Insurance for people with similar obstacles.

Age uk insured my hubby 71 with a heart problem for 100 days. So worth a try. Also I think All Clear is worth a try. Unfortunately I think the problem may be the fact that its a cruise. I think they're more expensive to cover.
Personally I wouldn't consider not having insurance. While my husband says he's not bothered and he'll take what comes it won't be him who has to deal with the aftermath. It will be me.

Most travel insurance specifies the regions cover e.g Europe or Worldwide etc.

What cover does one need, in the OP's case for a Mditerranean cruise which may call at N.African ports? Does the cover extend to international waters?

For worldwide cover I can recommend Insurancewith.com they are very helpful and if it’s a European Cruise you might get cover with
Eurotunnel. Can I suggest you phone and speak to them with all the health facts, dates etc in front of you. It will take a little while to go through the questionnaire with them but hopefully they will be able to quote you

Cancer research uk website has a list of brokers and also companies that deal with policies for cancer sufferers. I wouldn't be happy to travel on a cruise without insurance as you could be leaving a pile of worry and expense behind for your loved ones. Godd luck , I do hope your sister-in-law can get something sorted.

It was cheaper for us to take out European insurance with Eurotunnel than to pay for the upgrade with our Nationwide account as we both have various medical conditions which they want to charge extra for for each one for each of us - total came to nearer £400! We also took out a single travel insurance for a 2 week outside Europe holiday and still cheaper!

Staysure, Covered SWMBO. for many years right up until her latest "episode". Up to 6 Month in the USA. I (think) they will cover diagnosed cancer?. worth a phone call?.
