Fed up with dodgy campsite WIFI I’ve taken the plunge and bought myself a HUAWEI 5577 4G mifi and taking the advice on here a 2 year 24gb 3 SIM card . It’s all set up and running fine but seems to be chewing up the data so I’m switching it on and off quick time to minimise loss.

I’m using an Ipad and Iphone and really only want to use it for emails and the occasional webpage .My wife has the same units and uses WhatsApp and Facebook + emails .
Are there settings on the Phones and pads that I should disable before even switching on the mifi unit so as to reduce data loss?

Any tips gratefully accepted to help make my SIM card stretch.

Cheers
Wyn

Facebook uses quite a bit of data, especially if she's in the habit of watching the videos. I've strictly limited SWMBO!

Otherwise you've probably got automatic updates running - know nothing about Ipads so someone else will be able to help you there shortly no doubt.

Turn off auto updates in any apps.

I have 3 options on my phone.....
1......update over wifi only
2......update over data only (uses loads)
3......disable updates

I chose option 1...only updates while on home WiFi.

Trouble with that Pappa is that phones/tablets can see the MiFi as a WiFi network and update.
Best disable completely.

updates are just one of many reasons for using your mobile data allowance..

apps running in the background can also use a lot of data ..

switch off those you are not actually using ..

when in Germany last year I forgot to turn off the Photos app that backs up onto the iCloud.. it used all my data in one hit.. grrrrr
