We've stayed on the Haltwhistle C&CC site which is close to the Newcastle to Carlisle rail line. We used the train to go to both Newcastle and Carlisle. Site is nice but can get waterlogged especially at the far end.

The Braids at Gretna, just over the Scottish border.

Buses go from Gretna on a regular service into the centre of Carlisle.

There is also a train station at Gretna but don't know much about the service.

Hi ips

Was going to mention the gretna site also as for trains we get the train from dumfries to carlisle and it is about £7 return and we are 35 miles from carlise gretna will be about 10 if you go on to trainline it will give you times but i know the last one back to dumfries stopping at gretna is about 2300 and sure they run every couple of hours at least.

As for the bus ir will be cheape and think there will be more of them as the lockerbie and dumfries to carlisle bus pass through gretna.

You can also drive to carlisle they have plenty of parking next to the castle but prob better with train or bus.

Hope this helps

Haltwhistle site to Haltwhistle station is around 2.5 miles and the train journey to Carlisle takes around 35 minutes. There is parking at the station if you want to drive there and get the train but our MH is only 17ft so fitted in normal car space, not sure what facility there is for larger vehicles.
