can anyone please advise ( @Lenny HB ) what checks we need to have done at the end of the first year of a new fiat based Hymer to maintain the guarantee?

We’ve done approx 12,000km and have no engine lights indicating that a service is due, but I guess there maybe some maintenance such as grease points etc that may need doing on the chassis but I’m not sure if they would be done by the Hymer dealer or would require a separate visit to a Fiat dealer?

We intend to return to the supplying dealer in Germany for ease (and because we’ll be passing st about 54weeks since purchase)

Thanks in advance

My Hymer dealer said they could do the first year checks for Fiat but not Mercedes based vehicles, which have a full service at 12 months. If in doubt perhaps you should speak to a Fiat dealer to see whether they agree. As you say the vehicle usually lets you know when something is due.

For the Hymer bit you only need the damp check, 1st one can be done between 12 to 18 months after purchase date. Al-Ko chassis needs the axle greasing every 12 months.
Fiat first service at 45,000km (28k miles) I don't think there is a time limit on it as you bought your van in Germany but look at the service book some things should be checked at 2 years.

Do you think that in general, dealers can do the axle greasing?

As long as they use the right grease, only takes a couple of minutes a side, axle needs to be off the ground with the wheels suspended and it is important not to over grease or the seals will pop out, 5 pumps of a manual grease gun, don't use an auto airline one.

They can if they know what is required, ie rear wheels hanging free of the ground.

I prefer to do my own then I know it's right ... much easier now we have the HPC hydraulic jacks.

Yes we have the hydrologic levellers so getting the rear wheels off the ground should not be a problem

Fiat service schedules with low mileage vehicle like yours would be a service at two years.

Speak with a Fiat Specialist dealer. It should only require an oil and filter change and inspection.

Our 150hp Fiat 2015 was serviced a couple of weeks ago by Fiat and cost £240.

Lowdhams wanted £45 to do our rear axle but I decided to do it for £5, the price of the grease which will do it several times.
If you don't have a decent jack, axle stands or hydraulic levellers and a grease gun, then £45 is better than risking being crushed though.
I just want know that the wheels where completely hanging, plus what and how much grease had been used.
Needs to be a Lithium based, extreme pressure grease.
