Q. " Does anyone have any idea what the cause may be?"
A. Water.

Welcome to the Fun Farm, Ralph. Bet you before we're through answering, or at least trying to be helpful, supporting you in your misery, or at least showing what caring folk we are, someone will suggest a cure for water on the brain...

Could be frost damage.....always leave taps open when laid up over winter

yes it could be frost damage.frost will blow the rubber seals in the tap .
look on caravan parts on line to see the make of tap ,then see if you can buy a repair kit ,that's if you want do do it your self .a tap can cost £30 TO £50 to buy plus labor if dealer changes tap.
i have domietic single lever taps in our van they make a internal value assembly cost £10.
if you have wale taps they also have a kit .:thumb:

I had the same problem (with two taps:Doh:) last winter. I bought two inserts through eBay from caravanstuff4u and found the service and price very good. I think I paid about £15 each which is a lot cheaper than new taps. Search for "tap inserts" and check dimensions given against your old ones - I bought "Reich" inserts even though I don't have Reich taps but they fit perfectly.
