Anywhere beat Safeguard prices ? (1 Viewer)

We claimed a £800 bumper repair from our Safeguard moho insurance and our new premium has just shot up from under £500 to over £2000! Is this normal? Are we likely to find any cheaper if we shop around? Shocked

Try Comfort they don't normally worry about small claims like that, we had a claim for about a £1000 a few years ago premium didn't go up the following year. Also Comfort for us are around £200 less than Safeguard.

It's always worth checking around. At that renewal price, it'd have been cheaper to have had the repair done yourself but nobody knows that at the time.
Personally, I've always thought them expensive

we had the same problem we had a winny rv got hit by severe storm roof badly damaged insurance wright off the next premium jumped to over 1500 pounds from 300 managed to get it for just under 1000 not amused having a clean record bl...dy rip of merchants good luck.........ian

Sorry to hear about your insurance woes.

Comfort for us too - in fact for the last 8 years, but that might change at renewal in the summer.

We want to leave the van garaged near the airport in Spain for a few months next winter and fly down to use it periodically, but Comfort is not happy about that at the moment; even though it's a professional storage site with manned 24/7 security and video surveillance. Have found an alternative insurer if Comfort won't come good at renewal.

wow, some incresase.... we just moved to caravanguard but were with Safeguard for years,, sounds like they just don't want you to be honest..

been with safeguard for years but there increase in price this year £100 . making me think its time to move, comfort quote £87 cheaper but comfort dont do protected .comfort better excess .

It's all a bit of a lottery, I've found.

With Saga, my car insurance shot up so I changed to Direct Line. Now I've changed moho, they charged me £3.50 for 10 days cover til the end of the current policy but then want £305 for the next year whereas AIB have quoted £184 for the same cover. (Saga's online quote came out at £188 but they wouldn't honour it)

an insurance company! the National Farmers Union which is a mutual and therefore not run to make a big profit for the shareholders. A very good company, been doing business for many years and fast payers when anything goes wrong

From this it seems to not be worth claiming if damage is in the hundreds rather than thousands. Might as well opt for a very high excess and benefit from the lower premium.

In defence of Safeguard they offered to insure our new MH (which was twice the market value of the old one) for a lower premium than the old one, just to keep our business.

Maybe try telling them you're leaving for someone else?

Don’t t break down! Safeguards recovery didn’t respond to our breakdown in Spain,left us stranded for over 24hrs they never attended.

Didn’t want to know when I complained.

Whats NFU?

They have office in Holt. While we where working covered our motorhome for business use, very friendly people to deal with. I think it is Appleyard where the office is situated.

We've just renewed our Camping and Caravan Club insurance policy. Full European and UK breakdown cover, mileage 8-10,000 miles, trailer and awning and contents. We claimed last year after breaking down in The Netherlands caused by hitting an unseen speed bump. [£500] The Ins Co looked after us superbly , we were rescued within an hour, the van repaired over 4 days and hotel expenses paid which included a disability room for my wife. Premium £373.
We are very pleased with this quote. Comfort were over £500.

We received quotes of £200-£250 when we bought our first MH, trouble was they could not cover the screen, we called safeguard who were £450 but this included unlimited screen cover ( £100 ) access for each screen claim also included AA European cover.
