Right, Winne's MOT's coming up and unfortunatly our usual man can't do her due to weight, so, we've narrowed it down to two places.....

Without naming names, around junctions 1 & 2 of the M54 one can either go north a couple of miles to an american GM specialist, who has done the van for the previous owner, or south a couple of miles to a RV specialist, any advise/recomendations/thoughts etc?

The problem I have is these people do not....Understand the "older" technology and the way things were done.....

I have to give a tour of the van explaining things like the foot-operated parking brake and hazard/wiper switches etc....

Then they won't work on it because they "Haven't got anyone who can"

I ALWAYS take my workshop manual because invariably there is something to explain to them.....

Hi
Do you RV guys have to have a special test then. I say this as the VOSA spec for a motorcaravan is a class 4. the vehicles under class 4 include the description.

"a motorcaravan irrespective of weight"

Lots of MOT places dont read the book and so class it as a class 7 just becasue its over 3.5 tonne - unless its changed recently

There is no way that I would take my mh to such people as you describe. Simply take it to somebody who does know American, there's plenty of them out there.

VOSA test station, the nearest one to us as I understand is a sod to get to, and through areas I wouldn't want Winne to see....

I've gone with the GM guy as he knows Winne, both from the chassis point of view and because he's done many previous MOTs on her.

As to the is the RVs MOT anything special, no class 4, it's just size/weight that presents an issue for the more usual class 4 MOTer. Our man has a bay for class 7 so could do our old Dodge as she came in just under has ramps capacity, tight fit mind you but:Eeek: and Winne's gross vehicles at 6731kg, how sads that I know her weight:thumb:

Cheers all for your input:thumb:

Cheers Jim....Unfortunately Not around here and able to appreciate and understand the older way of doing things....

I get paranoid when they start jacking in the wrong place etc and have to step in to point it out to them....

I really think they don't understand the work that goes into running an old RV including getting parts.

She hasn't got a cat and was never fitted with one....:shout:

Suddenly thought it might be nice to finish this thread, as it were.

Winne's MOT was 1st April, on route of for the b/h weekend.

PASSED, well after a fight with the full of water fog light, I'd checked everything beforehand, topped up the screenwash, gived her a clean, lights, except, the bloody fog:Doh:

All good, and decent bunch at West Midland American Vehicles, talk alot but hey who doesn't:RollEyes:

Already have filter, for now and no not 'doing' Peterborough.

Is there something 'special' about his filters, price, OEM etc?

I've always used FRAM on everything and found them spot on.
