Can anyone suggest a good 12v hair drier one with plenty of blow

There isn't one, we have tried loads over the years as my wife simply will not go away in the camper unless she has a hair dryer

Before we were set up to use my proper hairdryer and ghd’s we just used to go on a site and have hook up.
As I only wash it once a week it’s no big deal . Though that would be if you need to do it everyday .
As for drying hair using vents .
I suppose that’s ok If you have short / thin hair. But if you have thick styled hair , nope, it won’t do.

Dyson hairdryer works well on a 1500 w inverter, with either the heat or blow tuned down one stop from full power

The only time you'll get any decent heat from 12v is when the melting 12v wiring sets fire to the van.

For us the solution was a big pure sine wave inverter!

The power from the inverter is coming out of the 12v batteries, so it's not a battery problem.

You could make a 1200 watt 12 volt hairdryer, but it would take 1200/12 = 100 amps. It would need wires like heavy-duty jump leads, about the same size as water hose. And it would need one of those big Anderson connectors used for golf cart batteries. Nobody would buy it.

12 volts = 12 watts per amp.
240 volts = 240 watts per amp.

Are you saying that nobody uses inverters?

Not every one has payload or storage issues so my large pure sine wave inverter handles 10 - 15minutes hairdryer use without any issue what so ever

NO he is saying that a 12v hair dryer is not limited by the batteries BUT by the cable and connectors, the fact that so many people run hair dryers off inverters is the proof that the batteries are capable.

I bought one before we went to N Z for our touring holiday.
The response was pretty much the same from SWMBO.
I thought I was being all clever like

You can get gas powered straighteners if it helps.

Bought the Missus a set a few years ago for the van. She's an ex-hairdresser, and says they do the job fine.

Re hairdryer, we are going the inverter route. Her dryer uses 650w at the wall, on the setting she uses at home. So will draw around 55A at a guess from the batteries.

Not so bad for 5 mins. Far less than my Tassimo

I wonder why no one has invented a gas hair drier like the straighteners?
Surely you would only be heating an element and have a small 12v fan to blow the heat. A rechargeable battery would take care of the fan.

Bet they would sell like hot cakes

There is a minimum 10 fold difference in power requirement. Hair straighteners & heated brushes are rated around 40-50W. Blown air hair dryers are a minimum of 10 times that & usually 20 times.

A gas powered hair dryer would be quite a scary beast! The air heating would have to be indirect as well - you can blow a blast of air across an electric element, but it would blow out a gas flame. So I imagine some sort of heat exchanger would be needed. It starts to be a tall order for something that should ideally be a hand held device.

I use my Dyson hairdryer with no probs. Recommended to me by another MH wife when away last year who let me try out hers in our van. Expensive but worth it. Not everyone would agree tho

You don't need a pure sine wave inverter for a hairdrier, though you might use it for other things that do need one.
