On the 27th I am going to order my first and possibly last motorhome.
Travelling up to Hayes in Walsall to put down a deposit on a Pilote P740C.
The prospect is a bit scary, all that money, although costed and not a problem.
Any help, advice or suggestions on extras, the buying process etc will be gratefully received no matter how basic.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know how long you have been looking but one piece of advice would be make sure the layout is right for you.

Is it new or used.

Have a safe trip to "Darlo"...
Look over the road and you will see where i was christened.. (y)(y)

Personally I always find extras can be sourced cheaper and better selection at a later date, unless you can squeeze them and get some thrown in.. Not sure how many Pilot dealers there are but always worth getting a price off them and quoting their name in negotiations.. "dealer 2 said he would give me a free solar panel" ;)

Leave as little deposit as you can get away with, dont be talked into many thousand.. Any deal on extras or things to be done get written down and on some paperwork, dont trust word of mouth as hard to prove later.
On payment day. make sure you look at van FIRST before they take your payment.. The common thing is to get payment taken and then let you look at the van.. Say no and do it the other way..

On and off for many years.
Hope it is wonderful!!!

Unless they are included "free" (we got £2000 of factory fit accessories and £2000 of dealer fitted extras) then don't get any fitted to start with as you won't know what you need / want.

We went for the auto gearbox as the factory fit (not strictly an accessory as it can't be retro-fitted). They also beefed up the roof so that the dealer could fit a roof rail system for our kayaks and we had a solar panel fitted plus a reversing camera and a rail for a drive away awning. They also put extra power outlets in free of charge as we needed them for medical equipment.

Then we got Alugas2000 to put a refillable gas bottle system in.

Vanbitz fitted the alarm - but they have a loooooong waiting list so check with your insurance if the van you are getting doesn't have an alarm so you can get the van booked in with Vanbitz.

We already had silver screens (internal and external) and tyrepal.

Since then we have had two more power outlets fitted and some more lights over the cab. We have put kayak carriers on the roof rail system.

I think that is it as the van was just about perfect anyway.

Everyone will tell you about getting the layout right. But the truth is, you will never know if it suits you until you start using it. I've been in vans that I would never choose such as a rear kitchen yet it works really well for others.
Your 1st and Last aspiration may change, I know mine has 4 times as circumstances have changed.

The only extra I would insist on is Gaslow/ other brands exist refillable bottles.

Good luck with your choice and hope it all works out.

Wasn't going for any extras that can be fitted later.
So it's the basic van, sensation fitment + chassis package.
Then an upgraded weight to 4400kgs, 150hp engine, auto box, airtop suspension.
Reversing camera and screen, built into body, side skirt locker.
Imitation leather seats, oven, sleeping area on table.
Elect adjustable bed, height adjustable bed to give max height in garage.
DAB reception for radio. Tv wiring in bedroom.
Shower in garage.
Think that's it.

Then after we have it
Growler alarm and bits from vanbitz
Alugas system
Dual ant sat dish and tv/dvds in lounge and bedroom
Solar panel
Spare wheel and tools
Honda 125cc motorcycle and ramp.

Think that's it.

We ordered from Hayes as well - they required a £2000 deposit which seems fair enough! Going to check with them 're awning/solar etc for price & specification-we'll see but first impressions very good!

Hopefully get ours March! Good luck!

If you can, pay the deposit using a credit card. Even though you only pay the deposit it does give you some protection albeit only up to £30,000.

That's my understanding anyway!

Not quite. S72 of the Consumer Credit Act only gives you protection if the total sale price (not the amount on credit) is less than £30,000. If the total sales price is more it gives no protection at all.
