I'm hoping to publish Two Go to Italy by April this year. :) But as we avoided all the well known places such as Venice, Florence and Lake Garda it may not help much if these are what you want to visit!
But the ACSI book and a website for aires such as CamperContact are all you need to find where to stay. For where to go the DK Eyewitness guides are a very good starting point.

We started visiting Italy twenty odd years ago, saw a TV program on Maggiore, liked it, went, fell in love with Italy.

Maggiore, Garda, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento, Riccioni. That's all you need to know.

Be careful on culture, it's so easy to overdose on old paintings.

Please post when your book is published.

We plan a long tour of Italy in 2019 and would welcome ideas.

A while back we bought the Alan Rogers guide because it said which campsites still had Turkish-style khazis. SWMBO absolutely insisted on avoiding those.

Hi John - looking forward to the book! Really enjoyed the 'Two go to Spain'
Thank you. A small milestone passed today - I've completed the first draft. :) I now need to do all photographs, selecting and editing them and make the maps showing the route. I suspect this might take the next couple of weeks. Then comes, after a lot of reviewing and tweaking of the finished product its conversion to an epub for uploading to Kindle. There are easy ways to do this but with lots of images I prefer to use HTML rather than just uploading a Word document and hope the book's format isn't trashed, which can happen all too easily with the quick and dirty methods. Of course all the HTML I learned with the first book I've now forgotten. :)
Then I'll need to do the paperback version, which is always a bit trying as my PC really struggles handling a document of over two hundred pages with all the images. It has plenty of memory but it lacks cpu power by modern standards, a mere twin core AMD cheapie, and scrolling up and down the document is painfully slow.
Ho hum, a good job I've nothing planned for the next couple of months then. :)
