Just wondering if anyone has or used to own one of these, I'm asking on behalf of a friend who has been offered one for £14000, private sale. I only have limited details at the moment, it has 95000 miles on the clock and is a 2.9 litre automatic without a turbo. I'm not in a position to view the van as its for sale in the UK and I'm in Spain, waiting for pics etc. I'm looking online but any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I thought all the 2.9,s of that era were turbo'd, certainly all the ones I have seen have been.

What is the hp, the turbo ones are 122hp.

They are good engines although service history is important, no fancy electronics, I don't think it is exactly the same engine as @JJ 1987 offering. You need to look at the service record. Also the bodywork can deteriorate, you can get a lot of corrosion on the skirts and window frames.

The 660 has the same running gear as my old RMB 670. The Merc 410, affectionately known as the Dudo. Mine came from the factory in 1990 as a non turbo and at some time in its life had an aftermarket turbo fitted. The van had a plated weight of 5.5 tons and I used to tow a trailer with either a Smart car or a Joyner sand rail on it. It was not the fastest thing on the road, but once wound up would keep up with motorway traffic until a long hill came into view. As long as the oil is changed at 5000 miles the engine should outlive the owner by several decades. The engine will happily run on bio fuels or vegetable oil during summer months. An indestructible machine as long as you are not in a hurry.

Looks nice, check the skirts for corrosion and is that black tape over the rear roof seal you can see? If so, that's a bodge job.

Thanks for that, I have advised them re damp and mech checks, weighbridge if possible empty with tanks full for payload etc. At the end of the day they need to have a look and see if the layout is good for them :)

First job before anyone even goes inside the van is to crawl under and check the exterior floor from the rear wheels backwards, rotten ones are commonplace and depending on the extent of it can be a major job.

But if all's good then £14000 is a good price for that van.

Has it twin rear wheels ? Certainly looks like it & if so payload wouldn't be a problem. if decent then I'd have thought it was cheap at the price.

Yes, twin rear wheels, you can see them in the photo, it will be built on a 410 or 412.
