Need to replace front tyres but the rear having done around 20k miles still have a good depth of tread left but they are have been on the van for 5 years.
Would you change them or run them ?

I would say depending how much you value your van, and your well being go for the set, only you can decide, but I would(n)(n)(n)

Simply inspect them.. Are the walls cracking ?
Look between the treads and make sure there is no cracking there.. Chances are, if they are decent tyres and those those bloody useless Mich Camper things ( I think they make them from cardboard and marbles ) they will be fine

We bought our MH in May this year tyres looked new done 15000 miles i checked the date a few days ago and they are 9.5 years old 1 year older than the MH, so i got in touch with Continental tyres spoke to a chap about what to replace them with on at the moment Vanco Four Seasons i told him the old ones were like new and he said if they are in good condition leave them on for a while longer he went on to say that you read about 5years old replace them but there is no law stating how old a tyre must be. So are leaving them on at the moment, i have bought a Tyrepal monitoring system for a bit reassurance

You say they've been on five years, but how old are they?

Old tyres are usually OK if you are not going at any speed but on the motorway, as soon as they get hot, be prepared for a blow-out.

Read somewhere the two worst cicumstances for tyres are the "lack" of use means they sit on the one point for long periods , and the uv rays in sunlight. By my reckoning ,here in Scotland, I only need to worry about the lack of use bit:D.
Until I got interested in mohos I couldn't have told you that tyres could "go off", even with low mileage , when age comes into it.

Providing they pass a good inspection they should be fine until at least 7 years old (check the manufacturing date on them). As you keep your van in a barn out of direct sunlight so even better.
If they are OK I would put them on the front and fit the new ones to the rear. Always advisable to have the best tyres on the rear, also the wear to time ratio will be better so you should wear them out before they get too old.

As most know ... its not the tread (which may look healthy) it's the walls of the tyres which count ... thats outside & nearside Personally I changemine every 5 years . Max mileage 4000 & tour at 60mph ....Always check tyre pressures too ... Peace of
mind ...
I've had two blow out years ago on RVs , thankfully on rear tyres ... so able to control vsn to a controlled stop . Lucky ... Front blow out will almost certainly take you across or off the carriagway .... Nasty....

If they are okay with no problems then keep them on so long as 5 years is the age rather than another couple on top as tyres can sit around for a while before being fitted to vehicles - check the date codes.

We've had to replace our 2 front ones due to damage caused on the atrocious roads in Italy last year but fortunately they didn't have a massive amount of tread left on them. We just bought some more new ones via Ebay at £105 each delivered - they've got a 2016 manufacture date but that doesn't worry us at all as we average 12,000 miles a year in the camper so wear them out before they need age-related replacement! :D
