My work van was broken into last night only two bikes in there so nothing taken,
he drove up and parked about 40 yards away and walked up to back of van and must have picked lock on rear doors, had it open in less than a minute had a look and calmly walked off back to his car. this was at 9pm and van well lit under a streetlamp. van is an x250 citroen relay so locks must be as easy to open as a transit.

I think your right.. picks are available .and any lock is pickable. ..
On the transit they used to just cut through the loom which was easily accessible and the doors opened..
Keep reading all these transit been stolen threads and that' an inescapable fact but as far as I know most vans can be stolen in exactly the same way as a transit..
Anyways pleased it was no worse for you and a good reminder to other makes of van owners..

only realised when i went to work this morning, got in and started up and door open light was still on,open and shut door and still on so got out and rear door was only on first catch, side doors still locked, was surprised when I looked at cctv that it was 9pm as we were only sitting a few feet away

Not exactly true. Ford are fitted with a Tibbe lock which is easy to pick
In a few seconds with a bit practice.

Other manufacturers locks are made completely different and require specialist picks to open and a lot of practice. If the are deadlocked (double locked) then it’s even more difficult.

Anyone with a Ford should have separate deadlocks fitted if the don’t want it stolen or tools nicked.

When have you ever heard of a Fiat being stolen without the keys?

Awful for it to happen to you but pleased that you've not had anything taken.

It's worth having a look at the door handle at the bottom where it meets the door panel - there may be a small hole made here which unless you are looking for it you probably wouldn't spot, and is how the lock may have been opened. This is often how the locks are activated on the X250 to break into them. Quite a few people (me being one) install steel plates behind the handles of the locking door handles to stop them being attacked in this way.

This thread is from a funster that had their van broken into with no easy to see way of it being done but post no.42 confirms a small hole at the bottom of the door handle. I thought there was a picture on it but can't find it anywhere.

My son had his work van window smashed. There was nothing of value in there, so they took the radio which is worth nothing. A massive inconvenience and of course a cost to him to get it fixed

as far as I know even a fait could be stolen if they had the right equipment and access to the diagnostic port , but as ive never had a go I can't be sure... they manage to get most makes of top end cars if they want so I suspect a fiat wont cause too much bother if thats what they want..

probably under 20secs to get in - not sure how quick to drive off though but i suspect not much more

Yup, you are dead right, any lock can be opened if you know how. I once removed a wheel clamp from my car and sent an invoice for storage of the clamp the the clamping company
The fact is though that the Ford lock pick is readily available on the internet. Other lock picks require a degree of knowledge to use them.
