That looks serious because of the internal damage. It might be best if they write it off, if only because a repair might take 6 months. Depends if the chassis is bent I suppose and how many panels need replacing. :(

I feel for you.

One good thing we weren't injured , just really shook up.
What a way for my wife to spend her 70th birthday.
Only 1 hour in a&e for checkup in Tavistock.

Don't like to be a prophet of doom but tend to agree, push for a write off. If like me you probably feel at least a little emotional attachment to the vehicle but that all looks major. Don't roll over for the insurers, whatever their offer ensure you happy with it and agree with it. Very sad, I hope it all gets sorted to your satisfaction.
Didn't see the post for your wife's birthday, sadder still, but make the best of it, 70 you've got loads more to come. All the best.

It's bad enough when damage to our m/h is caused by our own mistake but when someone else is responsible your heart must really sink.

The damage looks substantial. I hope there were independent witnesses so your insurance company can deal with it quickly as a no blame incident, and without protracted arguments.

Good luck, gutted for you.

Oh that's a horrible thing to happened to your pride & joy. Fingers crossed that insurance gets it all sorted out for you. Does look like a wright off, but if that's the case make sure you fight for every expense, it can cost a lot of money chasing around the UK for a replacement but most companies don't tell you that these expenses are a legitimate part of any claim. Good luck.

Yes , we were driving down hill on a country road ,when I stopped for a lorry coming up the hill as it was a bit tight . The refuge lorry some good way back behind me , braked & drove into the side of the road hitting us on our n/s rear corner.

Oh dear what a shame, glad your both ok that's the main thing, sad end to a birthday though. Your pride and joy looks like a total rebuild of the whole back end is needed inside and out, as has been said I would go for a wright off decision too.

I’ll say it for you....:mad::swear2::swear2::swear2::swear2::devil::devil::devil: I bet you said something like that at the time...

Glad your all ok but just sad...:( I really hope all the palaver that you have to go through now is short and ends with a great outcome for you both....

I’m sure as others would, we’d like to know how you get on with this terrible incident with insurers and the like, hopefully it all goes well....

I would say it’s a right off and I hope they sort it all for you asp. Looks like the bin lorry was going to fast to stop and not keeping his eye on the road and decided to ditch it before hitting you. A bin lorry fully loaded takes some stopping.

You need to get a loss adjuster to speak up for you using the legal insurance if you have it. At least he stopped although to have not seen you stopped on that bit he must have been on a bit of a run.

I'll second that.

So sorry mate. That photo of the lorry stacked in to the side of the road will be invaluable in the claim, hang on to it.

Do you have a dashcam up front? That'll also show the amount of time you were stopped for before the shunt happened.

Gutted for you. I'd probably cry if this happened to me

(after I'd calmed down )

glad to hear that you weren't hurt just shook up. Good job he drove it into the bank first!
As others have said make sure you claim for a loan vehicle, expenses for looking at others if it comes to that ,etc;etc. It isn't anything to do with you as it will all be down to the bin lorries insurance.

Will do , So far my insurers have been very good , all ready organised for the assessor to attend next tuesday & they have asked their lawyers /solicitors to ring in a few days & then again a week later to see if we have any after effects from whiplash .
They required photo's etc of vehicle ( I sent 22 ) plus quite a bit of other info.
They said that they were sure there wouldn't be a problem because it was obvious whowas at fault , as I was stationary at the time , hopefully my dashcam (thanks toJaws) will give proof of what I have done , not that they want the proof .I hope my voiced expletives at the time don't offend anyone !!!

Seems a bit strange to me that the lorry couldn’t stop in time, especially as you say he was a fair way back.
I wonder if he was on the phone?
Did you call the police, and was he breathalised?
They usually have very good brakes on those lorries.
If they admit liability, the answers to those questions may not matter, apart from getting to the truth, which is usually worthwhile.
Hope the repair or right off is sorted out quickly for you.

That's not what you want on your 70th Birthday, must have been a real shock for you both, make sure any aches and pains that may come out are noted and reported, but so pleased you are both alright.
Fingers crossed the insurance is sorted out quickly to your satisfaction, do let us know how you get on.
