Advice to repair cracking in Hymer Shower (1 Viewer)

Have a small crack by drain plug in the shower of my Hymer Starline 640 - 2002. At this area the shower tray flexes with thumb pressure. I have ordered Anglobath Putty repair kit to try and make a repair without the expense of Speedcoat.
Hymer have thoughtfully put an access hole beneath the drain plug.
I intend to spray the area underneath with expanding foam. Would this be OK to the support the repaired area?

Our Pilote shower base was a bit too flexible for my liking, so filled the space underneath with expanding foam. Five years later it's still doing the job

Spotted a crack in my shower tray so I took it out to check the floor and also repaired the tray on the underside. That would be the best way but easy for me as I put the tray in but may be difficult in your Hymer.

Just use it with care, a little squirt of foam at a time is best

If it was me I would repair first as the pressure of the fan could make the cracking worse

I think @Mr Mousy had a similar problem in his Hymer 660. He'll be along when he gets the alert to tell you how they fixed it!

I would use Gel Coat filler and fibre glass tape to repair the crack, repair the crack with tape reinforcing from undernearth then some gel coat on the top for a perfect finish.
I would also look at lifting the tray out and re-bedding it on silicon to stop the flexing.

Forget about the foam it will be a waist of time as the foam will compress and flex, IMHO.
Ive seen it used under compression and it doesn't fair to well.

If you have room to get into it use some two pack filler (car body filler)

Or you could try solid packing it with various sizes of packers used in the building trade.

Or you could try polyurethane glue, it is dispensed via a silicone gun.
This stuff expands but goes off solid, unlike foam.

es it is powerful stuff, I bent a window frame putting too much in in one go, a thin piece of plastic would bow all over the place. PU glue is a better idea for that purpose but allow it to spread or a local strong bit will crack at that point.

Thanks Neil2016. I had read your post with interest earlier and, if this doesn't work I will probably go down that route. Especially as on close inspection the tray has a number of small crazed areas.
See how we go with the putty stuff.

Quick update on my attempted repair using Tubby UK putty. Most expensive at £44.95.
Putty was a waste of time.
After mixing the two bottles together and using the syringe supplied it worked OK but went off too quickly and got quite hot.
Colour was good. Just see how it lasts.

My solution to a hairline crack was to order a new Hymer shower tray from Travelworld and get it fitted by a local motorhome repairer. The tray was about £600 plus fitting. I looked at Speedcoat - they wanted between £400 and £700 depending on the franchise. I decided to do the job properly.
