Call me a nerd, but whilst anticipating the collection of my motorhome next week, I thought I'd check the chassis number. (I've already had an HPI done).

The problem is, according to Wikapedia the 10th digit must denote the year of manufacture. As the van is a 07 Reg and probably an 06 model it should have a 6 or 7 in this position.
It hasn't. It has a ZERO, which is suppose to denote pre 1981 manufacture!

Are there any fellow nerds out there who can tell me I've got this wrong or offer some other explanation?

I have no idea how a chassis number is 'structured', but my '04' M/h also has a zero number for the 10th digit.
Sounds like there may be some 'duff gen' being circulated ?

i'm sure you saw this on wiki.......

Besides the three letters that are not allowed in the VIN itself (I, O and Q), the letters U and Z and the digit 0 are not used for the model year code. Note that the year code is the model year for the vehicle.

I O and Q are not used at all in any vin

U Z and 0 (zero) are NOT used in the year code AT ALL.

are you sure you read it correctly ?

is it a badly stamped 6 ?

check the vin plate against the log book.

what is the base vehicle and i'll find the location of the fixed vin number.

It is worth remembering that ANYONE ( even your self ) can edit Wiki.
I have edited a couple of pages a while ago relating to some techy stuff..
With that in mind it might show you the voracity of the info on there !
Wiki is an excellent referral place but do double check any info gleaned !

just been doing a bit of research and it may be that your base van wasnt aimed at or built for the uk market.....many foreign built vans use a different year denoter than us even though its supposed to be universal.

from what i can see it could have been built in germany.
