Hi All,

I have a 1997 Rexhall Vision RV based on the Ford F- Series Motorhome Chassis,7.5L

It currently is running on 215/85R16E 5 Ply Tyres.

According to the Ford Owners manual that came with the RV these are proper to the Passenger car. I have just had a severe blowout :cry:on the rear LH inner, in my opinion they should be a heavyier type. The manual also shows LT235/85R16E which are proper to Light Trucks.

My RV is plated at 6.5 Ton to me that should be classed as Light Truck and have a higher Ply rating.

Is there any one on here that can advise me

Hi Brian

My old Winnebago was on 16 inch wheels and I always went for light commercial grade tyres .:thumb:

I can't imagine many passenger cars weighing 6.5 tons

What you need to look at is the load rating of the tyres fitted to your RV. it is a number after the tyre size.
It should be over 110 to be strong enough for the weight of the van. ie 6.5 ton van and 6 tyres = 1.10 tones per tyre.

I have Continental Vanco8 on my 3.5 ton Ford Transit camper 215/75/16 rated at 113 (single tyres on rear).

My tyres are 215/85X 16 load rate E this is cutting it fine on our truck with a gross weight of 5.5 ton (on duals)
I would think that you could be over on at least 1 axle.
The "E" is load rate----on this size just over a ton per tyre.

 Yes, they SHOULD be LT235/85R16E 8 or 10 ply. :thumb:

Thank you for all your replies, so it looks as though I am going for 235/85R16 120Q
