Just fitting Tyrepal and wondered if others have fitted the locking grub screws? They do seem very fiddly and I have read of the possibility of them getting corroded. Just wondered how much chance they have of getting pinched if they aren't fitted as they seem fairly unobtrusive.

We've put the grub screws in but I am not sure if it's worth it or not to be honest. I'd be more worried about the sensor working loose and falling off than getting pinched - they are no good without the monitor after all.

When I first fitted the TyrePal system I also fitted all the locking rings on both m/h and toad but soon got fed up with the fiddling around, so now don't bother.

I've fitted the grub screws. Likewise to the poster above. Don't want them falling off. I found it easier to remove the wheel trim (if you have one). I gives you much more room to fart about with the Allen Key. I put a smidge of blu tack on the key to save the screw falling off. Once properly into the thread, I just peeled it off before the final tightening of the screw.

I've heard about the corrosion issue too. Something to do with differences in metal? Did another another smidge - (grease this time) so that they undo easily when required.

PS. Definition of a grub screw is sex in the lunch hour :D

I did fit the screws originally but had to remove the hub caps to do it. Then of course I had to reverse the process when air needed. Needless to say I haven't bothered with them since - especially as I also use cable ties on the trims.

Carried out my 6 month routine of removing sensors then grub screws and lubricating with Copaslip" prevents seizure of grub screws or sensor threads on valve stems. 10 minutes all told for peace of mind, simple's ;0)

I have fitted the Tyrepal 4+ and now need to inflate tyres, but can't get to the valve! I don't want to remove hubcaps every time, so how do I go about it? They are fitted correctly according to the instructions, but should the metal nut be put closer to the back of the sensor, i.e. so that the sensor sticks out further through the gap in the hubcap?

And the monitor is useless without the sensors. :whistle:

TyrePal specialise in fiddly bits :rolleyes: Both our cars have TyrePal and I have long since abandoned the grub screws because of my ability to drop them through the wheel and onto gravel etc.., never to be seen again, or simply being unable to remove them because of corrosion. I still have an old valve with the stump of a screw embedded in the sensor, the rest snapped off.....don't know my own strength :ROFLMAO:. I will drill it out if I need a replacement sensor. Sensors with grub screws are old models now so, I hope, less prone to theft..........if they ever were? Lithium grease seems to be the best way to avoid corrosion (not the spray which can mark alloys!) and provides plenty of fun when fitting and removing sensors....it gets everywhere :eek:

My MH has the new TyrePal Solar (the small solar powered monitor sits on a sticky pad and can be located right in front of driver as it is so small. So small, in fact, that it's not that easy to read!!). The sensors are smaller than before, so are much easier to drop behind the wheel :rolleyes:. There's a rubber boot, which will act as a dust shield, which you push over the valve and keep pushing until it's inside out. Then apply the grease, then a hex nut which seems to be little more than a fun accessory designed to be dropped (there's no explanation of its purpose). The sensors have the thinnest, fiddlyiest locking cover (which will show you the wind direction when you drop it :clap:). After you have screwed the sensor on (a good point is that they are pre-registered to specific wheels - Front Right etc. - which avoids the task of pressing buttons in the correct order to register them after fitting), you use a super-fiddly spanner to unscrew the hex nut back up to the sensor and then pull the rubber boot back over the whole assembly. By the time you have finished, you should have lithium grease everywhere :rofl:

This is all reason enough to have TyrePal, but it also has a great safety value to boot. With nitrogen in the tyres instead of air, I'm hoping that I never have to remove them again :whew:

I used to use the grub screws but found them a pain so don't use them now. None of mine have ever fallen off and I don't think they're a huge target for theft. You can buy individual sensors if any need replacing (at a price)

I could see from the outset that the grub screws would be a pain, so simply didn't bother with them.

Four years on, no problems whatsoever...

Good piece of kit in my opinion. (y)

I wondered what grub screws you were talking about until I back tracked through the thread.

I bought my solar version last year and would recommend it happily.

can you buy a set that will show the pressure in my TOAD, had a flat yesterday and fortunately flagged by a passing motorist as i couldnt feel anything or see it in the MOHO mirrors. would the signal reach from car to MOHO??

I have used a TyrePal system for many years which covers the motorhome and toad with the help of a TP booster.

Today I had to check the pressures, undid the grub screw and thought **** it, this is a pain, they won't come off, difficult to steal with wheel trims, so the grub screws are in a bad now. Hideously poor design.

The product is otherwise good. It's very enlightening to see the huge changes in pressure.

I use the grub screws. I can't really see them being stolen - I am more concerned about them working loose and letting the air out which is likely if they loosen the right/ wrong amount.

The later ones do not have grub screws. The thin nut supplied is used as a lock nut under the cap. Small spanner supplied to tighten. Regarding wheel trims and accessibility maybe specify or have fitted longer valves (I appreciate not the answer on all cases).
