I am looking to get breakdown recovery from the like of the AA for myself and the Mrs . It would primarily be to cover our car and my van but also cover our motorhome . Being almost 21ft long it is outwith the normal length paramiters these being limited to 18ft. Would this be a big problem in the event of the need to be recovered or would it be wise not to say???
Thanks in advance guys

i'd say if it was outside their parameters they would refuse recovery.

if you are a member of the Camping and caravaning club you could take cover with the RACs Arrival scheme.

no weight limit.
no size limit.
you are covered...not the vehicle, so ANY none goods vehicle you are in is covered whether you are driving or not.

this is only available to C+CC members.

depends what you mean by 'Van'
is it a work van or personal transport ?
can mean the difference of being covered or not.

i have cover for my 7.5mtr 3850kg kontiki, my corsa car and hilux pickup (private use, not a goods carrying vehicle) + any other vehicle....around £80 if i remember correctly.

Yes but make Bl:whatthe::whatthe:dy sure that you are covered Andy.
We thought we were and even had it written down on our Insurance but RAC still said we were not covered and refused to recover us, in the end Tesco sorted it out because we were on their petrol station! :thumb::thumb:
Never heard so much as an apology from Comfort or the RAC.:Angry:
Looks like we will be heading Papa Johns route next year! ::bigsmile:

seems to be very popular...especially with the 30ft / 6500kg plus RVers.

I queried the motorhome size problem with the AA with regard to recovery.
They stated that my "AA cover will cover a motorhome irregardless of length so long as it is under 2.3 metres WIDE and less than 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight"

Peersonally I am with the Caravan Club and Green Flag - mainly because I am insured through the NFU and they do not cover RV's for breakdown.

This Company is trying very hard to tell everybody about their new policies especially designed for Motorhomes of larger sizes. I promote them on my web site and am looking to take cover with them on my next renewal.

Why was it not covered ? was it a weight or length issue.

i think the majority of regular recovery drivers for the AA, Green flag and RAC are not LGV licence holders as most of the rec vehicles are under 7500kg.
all ours were under 7500kg.

3500kg will be around the max load these can carry.

the larger motorhomes over 3500kg and RV's probably come under their commercial division via the various camping clubs.

they must have moved the goalposts again.

i joined RAC Arrivals this year and they insisted on the confirmation code given by the C+CC.
you cant have the code if you aint a member.

I went with the aa as it does not have a length restriction and unlike green flag they will try to fix the problem on the roadside rather than just recover the vehicle also it is only in my wifes name, it was cheaper it covers her not the car so when we are in the motorhome it is covered as well, mine is a company car so already covered,

you do need to check all small print though to see is you are covered
