Have always camped, caravaned or had boats. Now in our second year with the motorhome.
Need a recomendation for a site for this weekend with the following criteria....

Lancs, west/north york or cumbria
within walking distance of a village / town with somewere nice to eat.
prefer some nice shops within walking distance (possibly bus distance) for the sunday
preferably site with hook up but may consider a cl

Many thanks - ips

This suggestion might be a bit too far east for you - but it fulfills all your requested criteria:
It is a farm within walking distance of Old Malton.
When you come off the Malton bypass up to the roundabout, take the road towards Pickering; almost immediately, just before you reach the entrance to Eden Camp, there is a small road off to the right. The farm is about a quarter of a mile along that road, on the right.
(Sorry, I don't remember the farm name).
Old Malton is within easy walking distance, with a couple of good pubs; and Malton itself has a range of interesting shops.

Haven't stopped on the CC site but used to go there on Sunday morning to use the leisure facilities, quite a pleasant place, but also a commercial site as well as the CC site.

Regarding "nice shops" you'd have to go to Skipton for them & I'm not sure on the bus times from that area.
There are a few shops in Grassington selling outdoor stuff and bits & bats, together with a couple o pubs, but it's more a stop off place for a pint after a walk & a wander for an hour than a "shopping experience"

If you can be self sufficient & don't need leccy or loo disposal why not try the Aire at Ambleside, there is a tap for water & it's about a 3 minute walk from pubs & shops!

This weekend is the last of the Grassington Xmas market weekends. We visited two weeks ago, stopping at our favourite cl site, Seat House Farm near Gargrave, voted best cl for a couple of years. There is a park and ride service from the quarry car park, but get there early, the road gets busy! On Sunday there is a Xmas market in Skipton, you can visit the best kept castle in England and have great fish and chips, cooked in beef dripping of course.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
I was going to post the same question, so you've saved me a job. Thanks:winky:
As we pick up the MH on Friday :thumb::roflmto::thumb: 2 more sleeps !!
We wanted somewhere near us for a first trip out , Saturday and Sunday night stay .
The kids break up Friday so depending on the weather....could be longer.
This way we can make sure we know where everything is and how it works , before we do the week long trip over new year.

Malton , York and Whitby would be great. Would you have to book these sites , or just turn up?

Sorry for hijacking the thread BTW:Blush:

The Aire in Ambleside?

Is this the Car Park on the one way system on the way into town? On grass with rubber matting underneath?
