Telephone call from the owners of the storage place - " someones stolen the wheels off your MoHome ".

Charge off up there and upon arrival find :

All paper work strewn over the yard.
All four wheels missing - MoHome sat on belly.
Bike rack gone.
All three roof lights removed - and of course it's peeing down with rain and hasn't really stopped since.
Motorised satellite dish been ripped off roof.
Lock on habitation door messed up.
Both front seats gone.
TV and radio gone.
Satellite box gone.
Mains electric panal gone.
Fridge gone.
Cooker gone.
All blinds gone.
All soft furnishings, ie: cushions gone.
Cab Door surrounds prised off !
Three external skirt panels damaged.
Grey waste pipe snapped off.
Grey water and fresh water tanks damaged.
Battery damaged.
Damage to all the bed slats.

And that's what l can see - goodness knows what else has been damaged underneath the vehicle.

Spoke to Police and Insurance company on Sunday. Yet to hear anything more from Police. Insurance company sent RAC, who sent someone else to attempt to recover the vehicle on Sunday afternoon. Two hours of trying and they give up. Need wheels guv. Two hours on the telephone to Insurance company this morning, trying to get them to understand that the vehicle is open to the elements, and that it is peeing down, which isn't doing what is left much good. Have spoken to Auto-Sleeper and they are desperate to come out and recover, but Insurance company says no. Engineer has to come out and look at it to decide if it's a write off or not. In answer to the question " when ", they answer next couple of days or so.

Anyone fancy buying a MoHome that is slowly changing into a boat

Oh strewth Philip
What can anyone say.. Your heart must be in your boots

Did you pay someone to store the vehicle where it is and if so did you sign a waver to say they are not responsible for it ?
If not I am afraid this could well drag on for ages as the insurance company will be going after the people where the vehicle is stored, big time ..

I am waiting to see and read other posts on this subject before I make a comment regards paying for storage and the Company not taking responsibility for the storage.

Blimey Phil, our hearts go out to you and yours old mate!

Few things : Where the hell was the Storage facility security .... to do the damage to your vehicle would have not only taken a longish time, but the noise would surely have been noticeable! In side job perhaps !!!!!!!!!!!:whatthe:

Re the insurance : As long as you have proof of all calls to them, let them take the hit! As sad as it appears, ultimately they make the final decision re repair or write off. If they decide to repair .... refuse it on grounds of water ingress due to their stupidity and not allowing Auto Cruise to remove the vehicle to dryer storage! Either way, don't accept the 1st offer they give you and fight like mad for what you deserve.:winky:

We all reading this can sympathise with you and I am sure all will say 'There for the grace of God go I' but chin up ............ sure all will end well in the end for you?::bigsmile:

Bit early but from 'Me & Mine' A Happy Christmas & EVEN happier New Year to you Phil. :thumb:

Dreadful news. As with any third party involvement, the insurance should pay you out and THEN pursue others for costs. I hope I'm right on this.
Good luck.

The time taken and noise, how did they get away with it ???

Looks like they'll do you a favour if they write it off, provided you get a good price.

Where do they fence goods that specialised ?

Terrible for you.

1994 and beyond...
Bad luck! After reading this catalogue of a disaster's I can now see why some insurers dont cover vans in storage:whatthe:

I would think they would write it off........You need to get cracking finding examples of similar vans and the price it will cost to replace. The assessor will probably make a derisory offer in the first instance, then up to you to argue (with evidence ) that it is worth more......

reading post again, this seems very malicious and way beyond normal thievery.... a grudge against owner of storage would be a possibility, trying to damage there business? its just the damage seems a bit over the top. But hey ho what do I know!

Have always camped, caravaned or had boats. Now in our second year with the motorhome.
Sounds like someones doing a "home build" project job to me.
Worse part is that these low life scum will probably never get caught.

OK folks update. Thanks to much nagging from AutoSleepers they were allowed by the insurance company to recover the MoHome on the fourth day after the trashing. That is after four days of water penetration through the open roof.

Since then there has been good news and bad. First the good news, the insurance company have approved the repairs which amount to circa £27,000.00 so l have been told. We've talked to AS and agreed that late Feb / first week in March will be fine for the return of the vehicle..

Now for the bad news, the police have warned us not to return the MoHome to it's existing storage place, and the insurance company have ever so gently advised us that if we don't heed the advice given, then we can look elsewhere for cover. Knowing a little bit about inter insurance company communication, that probably means that cover will be extremely difficult to find.

So for the past five days l have been attempting to find more secure storage with electric hook up facilities. I would have had more luck finding a polar bear in the Sahara ! Nearest one to home l can find at the moment is about fifty minutes drive away. Now to save anyone asking. no we can't park outside the house for two reasons. One we have no frontage to speak of, and two, there's no road, just a footpath.

If something does not come up by the middle of January, l have this horrible feeling that the MoHome will be off to a new owner.
