A hard rubber ice hockey puck is a few quid off Ebay and is perfect to go on top of your trolley jack plate to stop it taking the paint off the jacking points. Better than a bit of wood!

I was taught Never to build castles!!

Iff ,when you have your van jacked up a gust of wind or a HGV goes by ,your castle will fall over...if you have the road wheel off it will cost you a lot more than a few flakes of paint

?? You've lost me there. I'm talking about the van being on a jack because you're doing essential maintenance work on it - probably on your driveway.

Nice thought but I'll stick with wood. That way it'll "mould" itself to whatever point I'm jacking up and help settle it all in a nice solid way.

Used wood for years and not so sure if a small puck would be as good. I'll keep it in mind though

Yes, I've got a plastic one for my wife's Ford car, with the slot to go over the seam under the sill. But for the MH, which has flat jacking points with a hole in the center, and my Audi car which doesn't have the annoying Ford sill seams, the ice hockey puck works best - it's a hard rubber that deforms just enough to grip nicely. Definitely grippier than a bit of wood, my previous method!

use nothing but a bit of ply wood for years and ware ever required axial stand i think that choking the wells is more important than anything.

Yep - that's an small size junior ice hockey puck that some enterprising chap is cutting slots in! At £2.99 inc postage he's not going to get rich in a hurry.

Definitely Bill, I always chock the opposing wheels, van in gear with the handbrake on as well. I wouldn't crawl under the van if it was just on the jack, would always want to use axle stands as well. Once with no choice (roadside repair, jack but no stands) I took the spare wheel off and put that under the sump before crawling under, so at least it would something more solid than me to land on if it did come off the jack - not ideal though, not really recommended.
