Hi, Tony and Carol, and a warm welcome from us.

Is Huttoft Bank still available for motorhomers? Last we heard the council had put up a height barrier.

No, its a coastal country car park owned by Lincolnshire County Council where camping is banned.
The Byelaws made under section 164 of the Public Health Act 1875 by Lincolnshire County Council are to prevent unauthorised overnight parking, camping and trading with respect to land at Anderby Creek, land at Wolla Bank, land at Marsh Yard, land at Moggs Eye, land at Huttoft Car Terrace and land at Chapel Six Marshes in the County of Lincolnshire.
Some ignorant, selfish, people ignore the byelaws - which sends a message to all councils in the country that they are typical of motorhome owners.

Seems they were having trouble with FLTs as far back as 1875.

Experienced free Loading Tossers (such as myself) avoid parking against the regulations where it would upset the conventional housey folk.

Heading up there today or tomorrow for a day at the beach. But not overnighting.

Still don't get why when they know how popular it is. It can't be made like an aire and the council make money from it.

Charge for parking anyway

It's been well documented if you Google it. Basically it's a matter of management of a site remote from staff bases. The council would only make money from it if people actually paid up and the vandalism that has already taken place shows the lengths some will go to in order to take what they want without payment.

I dont think the local dogging scene or smugglers wanted motor homes disturbing their evening activities.

if you apply for a sea fishing permit you can stay overnight if your fishing.
That's a different matter from unauthorised camping in motorhomes. People who lie to obtain sea fishing permits so that they can then abuse the system to enable unauthorised camping come into the category of ignorant, selfish, people who turn councils against the majority of motorhomers.

Get out off the wrong side of bed G?
Not at all, just sick of getting knock backs because of people who think legislation doesn't apply to them and they can do anything they want regardless of the consequences :D

Graham its not as they are blocking anyones view is it. Staying a night or two isn't exactly a hanging offence. No need to call them ignorant. Think you need to chill a bit. Have a pasty. With carrots. :)

My comment was a general one, not aimed at anyone specific. As you have posted that you don't camp on the terrace it can't refer to you though can it?

We all know the history of Huttoft Terrace (or can find it using Google if we don't). If it were just people staying a night or two then LCC probably wouldn't bother but people have abused the area too much and, as a result, the bye-laws ban motorhomes completely. The only reason that motorhomes are able to physically access the terrace is that the barriers were destroyed - a criminal act. If criminal acts aren't ignorant then I don't know what is.

The whole barrier episode was blamed on motorhome owners butlots of different groups of people used the terrace and were very angry when barriers were errected. I agree that criminal damage is wrong but the finger was all ways pointed at motorhomers which was wrong.

Some ignorant, selfish, people ignore the byelaws - which sends a message to all councils in the country that they are typical of motorhome owners.
The same happened with Dick Turpin Graham. (y) He ignored all the bylaws in regards to holding up stage coaches. He became a national icon, before they hanged him.
Maybe the message now being sent to local councils is "Stop being pratts. Open up your car parks for overnight motorhome stopping, but police them with the cash you will make. This will ensure that some lazy ass council employee is at least being used for something useful, instead of spending his/her time reading the paper all day, because you have a no redundancy policy.":)

Trouble is, Dave, that time after time councils have said to people "Stop being prats, treat our car parks with respect instead of as long term camp sites and stop treating our dunes as cassette toilet disposal dumps because the way you treat them costs us far more than anything we can make from them" and too many people have ignored them.

Of course it would be wrong to blame all motorhomers but the fact was that sufficient motorhomers abused Huttoft (just as they do other places) to mean that action adversely affecting all motorhomers was inevitable. Every time that such bad behaviour occurs it sends a negative message to councils who see that but not the good side which very few people make the effort to show them.

When the mass trespass took place in the Peak District it lead to the right to roam act coming into being. The participants in that were also breaking the law. Were they ignorant too? I'm not condoning criminal damage, just putting another side of the argument. Sometimes direct action achieves results.

In that they ignored the law at the time then, yes, they were, by definition, ignorant.

The Mass Trespass, though, was of a constructive and political nature as opposed to the selfish and destructive actions of the people who caused the problems at Huttoft (and elsewhere). The passing of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act on 1949 was a part of the political aspect of the times, enjoying majority support (again unlike the situation at Huttoft).

The results of constructive direct action are often beneficial but the results of destructive direct action seldom are. If people want to be able to camp at places like Huttoft they need to be willing to enter into constructive negotiations with the landowners and to take an active part in preventing abuse, not committing acts of vandalism or taking advantage of those acts perpetrated by others.

Folk who chill out in Bruges do not get this stressed on Saturday mornings. What you need is to go and see how the Belgians handle this. A nice barrier which you pay to open. Go and admire the Belgium system then come back and campaign for the Brits to have the same. With you vast knowledge and data you can transform the UK. Sir Graham of Glossop for services to UK leisure.

Ignorant: lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.
If you are aware of the law but choose to ignore it, you can hardly be classed as ignorant can you?
