My Carthago came with a fitted Pioneer double din stereo which also provides the dvd player to the van television (important) and the screen for the twin lens reversing camera (very important). Problem is, the supplied unit is crap! There is no on/off switch (you have to use a switch on the main van control panel), the picture on dvd is wobbly and makes peoples faces look like they are made of jelly and worse of all there is a permanent message that takes up the whole of the top third of the screen about the image possibly being reversed (it isn't) when its in rear view camera mode. This is potentially dangerous as it often hides vehicles behind the letters on screen so you don't know they are there. I think its only a budget model, but I desperately want to replace it with something more user friendly.

I have been on line and it seems that hundreds of people have complained about the stupid Pioneer message being permanently on and the answer is that there is nothing you can do about it, Pioneer having decided that its the only way they can avoid possible law cases should people fit a camera themselves and not realize the car behind is back to front leading to an accident. I guess I could get the unit replaced under warranty for the faulty dvd picture but to be honest I cant be bothered driving miles to the dealers to get the same thing, or possibly I guess another Pioneer with potentially the same problems fitted. I would rather bite the bullet and get a different make, possibly a Blaupunkt or similar but I guess it would be quite an awkward fix for the likes of Halfords. Are there any vehicle radio specialists That you guys have experience of who would understand the ways and needs of a motorhome, rather than a Vauxhall Corsa with a 500 watt bass system in the boot? I intend having a satellite system fitted by Vanbitz soon but they only seem to supply Pioneers.

Motormods. I've not used them for stereo installation but they installed my autowatch alarm system, with modifications as they came highly recommended by my supplying dealer Cotswold motorhomes. Very pleased with the install and as they do a lot of work for Cotswold motorhomes they are not phased by working on MH's. Being a small but very busy family business, I found them very approachable.

Incidentally, I have a double din pioneer unit fitted (can't remember the model) and haven't experienced any of the issues you've mentioned with either the camera, albeit single image or DVD(n)

Hi Hellski.
Can I be a pain and ask which model you have? From looking on line I got the feeling that all Pioneer models had the message on screen problem, but if it's only certain models I could look at the others? I will certainly look at Motormods as they are close to home, thanks.

You could try Sextons on the Bristol Rd (nr Permali). Not used them personally but heard good things about them.

@BobtheBass, just checked and I have the AVH-X5800 DAB.

When going into reverse a screen comes up with the warning prior to the image being shown, similar to a sat nav when first booting up.

@BobtheBass, another vote for Motormods, must have been in business since the late 70's early 80's so must be doing something right. I used them a lot when I worked in the motor trade.

We supply the Columbia DAB unit designed for the Weaco twin lens camera

It has no messages, and even has a web browser built in(y)

Thanks Eddie.
I don't know this model? Is it expensive (!) and can I play DVDs through the van tv with it.
I will be coming to the NEC and was going to hopefully have a chat and arrange for you to fit a satellite system and battery master for me as well.
Cheers,
Bob

Last week I used Sextons, Bristol Road, Gloucester for a Clarion radio/cd/MP3/Satnav/allkindofstuff unit. They supplied and fitted a new replacement unit for a faulty one fitted by another supplier. Did a first class job quickly and efficiently. They will clear the cars on their forecourt to allow you to park.
