Be aware the prong type will leave holes.. So sellers may not want you jabbing in prongs all over the place.. Habitation checkers will either use a non invasive meter or know where to take readings without leaving to much trace... I got a cheap non invasive meter off ebay china for £20...

Actually, i wish i had one now!

I went to see a motorhome for sale through a dealer. When I looked in some upper cupboards, I saw some hand written notes about the van.. The ink had run and were turning black with mould growth. By hand, the cupboard felt dry but I was put off a little not knowing why the ink ran!

The ones with prongs are for wood, they leave marks and are difficult to read in corners.

These are designed to pierce water proof wall coverings for an acurate reading of course if you want to use them in the middle of a wall where damp is rarley found thats your choice the proffessionals use these under seats etc when buying from you.
they use the non penertrative type when selling to you;)
The one linked to has a hold facility soyou can read what it was after youv'e climed out the cupboard
