We are a family of 6 motorhoming in a wintry Europe in December from a sunny Australia! Does anyone have any recommendarions staying in or around Munich. We will be spending about 5 nights there. We would like to pitch somewhere that is close to transport that will get us into the centre of Munich for all the typical touristy things.

We then intend to travel to Venice. Does anyone have experience driving through the Brenner Pass at that time of year? Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Graeme

The vast majority of German campsites close this week! German tourist offices are an excellent source of help Link Removed

We went through Brenner pass around 16th september 2002 (cost 8 Euros)when we driving to Croatia, although it was dry we drove down a very steep mountain road, with slip off roads, and was braking too hard which caused them to smoke a lot, we pulled up (which was the worst thing to do) and they nearly caught fire, the best thing to do is carry on as all the other drivers were doing. I would not like to drive down in the winter months, this is very mountainous area.

On our drive back from Croatia we also went to Venice, found a site at "Mestre" place called "Oriago" the site was called "Della Serenissma" it was 21 Euro's per night for 4 people, there was a bus service just outside the site, you can then get a water bus to travel around Venice,
hope this helps

Alternate route to Venice

We went through Brenner pass around 16th september 2002 (cost 8 Euros)when we driving to Croatia, although it was dry we drove down a very steep mountain road, with slip off roads, and was braking too hard which caused them to smoke a lot, we pulled up (which was the worst thing to do) and they nearly caught fire, the best thing to do is carry on as all the other drivers were doing. Can anyone suggest an alternate route from Munich to Venice that may not be as hazardous as the Brenner Pass?

Thanks,

Graeme
