Are any funsters going to the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf this year?
Just interested to see who's going and if you're buying?

Yep, fly out Saturday morning will go Sunday maybe Monday as the boss has a low attention span... Fly back Tuesday.
Doubt we will be buying just trying to reduce the options, then will surf mobile.de introduced to us by the sadly departed Judgemental (RIP Eddie).
Carthago/Hymer/Rapido with Rapido looking favourite to meet our needs at the moment.
Need to wait until we have space to park before buying.
Weather looks roasting out there - hope they sell beer ;)(y)

Should arrive 5 - 6 pm Monday, get the dancing shoes on and off to the big marquee. Visiting the show Tue & Wed, then heading south, back home late October.
Boss has put her foot down about spending on a new van, we will have to see about that.:)

Well we got there and got back and had a good time in between, made a beeline for hall 14 and didn't see much else. Hall 14 contains Concorde, Morelo, Vario mobil, Volkner, Niesmann+Bischoff and a few more.

what did anybody else see and fancy/buy.

I liked the vario mobil with the red merc convertible and the volkner.

We were parked next to a couple with a volkner in the parking area. We got chatting and she invited us in for a good look round her pride and joy. It was fantastic. They had owned it for two years and the leather upholstery still had the new car smell.

Vario for sale here, might even be the one from the show, with a decent exchange rate you might get it for £mil.

Crazy, you could by a similar sized, higher spec'd American motorhome for a ¼ of the price

PLASTIC reinforced with fibreglass "please" @Jim and real "tree wood".

I know Martin. ;) They are great machines, but still too expensive. It's no good comparing them to the American RVs that make it to these shores as Ken did, they are invariably super budget models. But £250,000 to £1000,000 priced Americans are exceptionally well built and specified.

I do think the RV Owners Club will be getting a boost in membership when some of the Merc based RVs get over here.

Look at this, it's 3ft shorter than your average big Hymer or Bitchoff, but twice the room. The spec is excellent and as for falling to bits, go to many US campgrounds and you'll see 40 years old Winnebagos. Look at the price! Look at what you get! And that is RRP some dealers are sell them for less than $110k Yes they will never be that cheap here after shipping, taxes and conversions but they are tens of thousands cheaper than their German equivalents and IMO deserve serious consideration.

about 20 Jim

So about 2 mpg more than me then when I'm towing :) Not all Americans are 7 MPG monsters, but all of them have more room than Europeans. :) Those Mercs when they are here will be comparable MPG to you.

Once we've parked up we get the benefit of that lost 2mpg :)

We have considered the Winny Via and imo they are not built for use in winter plus I detest those sodding 'furnaces' which all yank tanks seem to have - they make more noise than a jenny when they're running.

They are a pain, and they murder batteries. I think you can spec them with diesel water heaters, mind you they can be noisy too.
