We're off for a short trip to Normandy and North Brittany in a couple of weeks. Ive found lots of web sites giving information on how few beaches will allow dogs on the beach off the lead, it looks like its a non starter. Does anyone have personal experience of any beaches that allow dogs in Seotember?

Unless you plan on going to beaches in the bigger tourist resorts you won't have a problem.

Most beaches have a complete dog ban from the 15th June until the 15th Sept but have seen plenty of dogs on beaches outside the main French season which is mid July until the last week in August.

Lots of very quiet beaches, especially in Brittany.

Excellent - thanks. That's good to know.

We've recently come back from Brittany and Normandy with our dog and, especially this time of year, you'll find plenty of empty beaches to let your dog run off lead.

Many beaches are completely deserted in Brittany and if you use the Aires you'll find plenty of overnight stopping places alongside beaches.

There is also the coastal path (Sentier Littoral) which is marked (see picture) by multi-coloured marks that indicate where the paths go and you can use them to let the dog off lead when you are not allowed on beaches during the Summer months.

The Locals walk their dogs on the beaches whenever they feel like it but we Brits usually stick with the rules and regulations, don't we?

And don't forget those little bags to pick up anything your canine may deposit!
