We have a spring loaded door retainer to keep the door open on warm days. I think it is marketed as a Viva door retainer and is useless. Trouble is in anything more than the slightest breeze the springs are too weak and the door slams shut. No probs except when fly screen across the opening when there is a high probability of it being damaged as there is a bin on the inside of the door. Has anyone got a good method of keeping the door open which doesn't require something heavy being placed against it?

Watching with interest .... Had the same thing happen - re fly screen and the door mounted bin...

Although my door does not have Spring clips... Just a push fit thingy....

It's a bit of a nuisance...

I have the same problem. When it gets slightly windy I attach a light rope between the hab door internal handle and the wingmirror. I've heard others attaching a bungy cord to the wheel arch.

I noticed at Malvern that @Brisey had a really good green strap thing holding back his door. Wish I'd asked him where it was from.

It's called a Gator Strap, we purchased it from Road Pro a year or so ago. We noticed at Malvern that SeaFlo were selling their own similar product.

I have a webbing strap attached to the inside of the door using the screws in the lock mechanism's cover. It can be connected (via a quick release clip) to another strap anchored on the kitchen unit for extra door security at night. It can also be used to hold the hab door open using a common or garden bungee cord hooked onto the cab's passenger door handle.

Not highly stylish, but it cost me sod all to make :)

Like the look of the raptor strap. Seems a safer solution than a bungee. Do you attach it to your door handle?

Funnily I also thought it was 'Gator' Strap' too but couldn't find it:doh: Glad you came along @Brisey :clap2: We tried it with our hab door but needed at least 4 to reach from the door tt the cab door :Eeek:

We attach it between the habitation door handle and the cab door handle.

Have a look on E-Bay, they are available in differing lengths.

Still learning since 2010
Bungee attached to the chassis rail and the door mechanism.
I have to reach under at first to attach it to the chassis rail, but it stays there even when unhooked from the door.
It's long enough to leave the end protruding so that it can easily be reached and seen, preventing driving away with it still hanging on.
Autotrails effort at a door catch is a joke.

Andy your device is clearly the Rolls Royce of retainers but where did you obtain it. I presume you have to gain access to the inside of the door to bolt it in place?

A long time now
I just drilled a hole in the tongue of the doorclip and similar in the retaining clip and bent a tentpeg into a goalpost shape and use that it hasn't failed me yet and did not cost a bean.

I position my husbands chair in front of the hab door so if it blows shut it doesn't do any damage to the MH .................. and it usually wakes him up too.
