I was very disappointed how many prescription medicines mean they don't want or cant use my blood, I am only on BP medication and not overly strong at that :(

Is there an age limit , used to but don't want mine after Meningitis. That was 5 years ago so will enquire again. Very important especially if you have a rarer blood group.(y)

I'm the same as you @scotzsue , was a regular donator until I received a transfusion, around the time of mad cow disease - some (specifically Floras) would say they know why now!!!

I've never been able to give blood because of a heart murmur from birth that never caused me a moments problem. I suspect that many of us on here are now too old :(.

i think people should get paid to donate blood,as a lot of your donated blood/blood products is sold to the private sector, more so now than years ago.

I think if you are willing to accept blood should you need it, you should be willing to donate, providing you can medically, of course. Same with organ donation.
As with others I donated for 12 years, until they didn't want mine anymore. :(

I made sure I gave more than my late mother used
It only seem fair and the right thing to do
I passed out the last time I went, l have low blood pressure and don't like the sight of blood, they rushed me to leave the donation bed with the promise of tea and biccie
Ah well

Several years now
I've given over 50 pints but found that as I work and can't predict where I'll be on a day to match the transfusion session I can't ever get a last minute appointment, it's mainly the retired round here that make up the majority of donors.

Why is there not a transfusion "room" at every hospital where you could just walk in to donate ? And doctors could have a quiet word with relatives of patients who had just received blood, suggesting that they, the relatives, might like to donate blood as they have just seen where it is needed !!

I have done in the past but at present can't as I'm being tattooed pretty regularly and I believe it's a minimum of 12 months before I can give.

Like Geordies I find it extremely difficult giving blood due to their stupid booking system. I used to just turn up wait about 15 minutes and then get seen. The last two times I have been ,the receptionist said to come back later (2 hours) as they had no room. I can't spare the time to be messed about like this so after 50+ donations I no longer go. I am sure they would get more blood donations if they allowed for people like myself to turn up on the day.

I have made bookings for the last 2 plus years but the last 2 times have turned up to be told that the van broke down or some other ridiculous excuse for them having a 1 1/2 hour wait on top of the 40 to 50 minutes it takes anyway. How they expect anyone to do a days work and then spend all evening waiting is beyond me especially as I am ready for something to eat more substantial than a couple of biscuits.
If the stocks were really needed, they should have a drop in centre at the local hospital with a website to give a real time waiting time.

my dad used to give blood, the van used to visit the cowley car factory in oxford, and the guys who give blood lost no time or money, the company (pressed steal/British layland) encouraged workers to give blood, sadly it no longer happens.

Sadly I am not allowed either. Another important blood donor group is dogs and I have let my vet know that our dogs are happy to help in an emergency

I'm a regular blood donor, every three or four months. I started giving blood some years ago now, when my wife was given blood as part of a life saving operation.

I think I'm up to 35 or so whole-blood donations now. Last year I started donating platelets too, it's a shame they won't let you do both though as it's difficult to get to the platelet centre (four hours or so, including the hour-long donation time) so I've had to go back to giving blood only. If my work situation changes I'll give platelets again.

Donating blood is my way of giving back to the NHS and my little way of saying 'thank you' (y)

My son said I didn't need to worry about mad cow disease as I had been one for years :)
