Just had a Hobby recall letter from Germany. Some of their models (mine included) produced between 2007-2012, fitted with a panoramic roof window above the drivers cab. It seems that the adhesive joint between the roof window and vehicle roof may have become loose!

We have to take it to our nearest dealer 150 mile round trip. I expect Hobby will pay for fuel don't you?

As we have changed address and are unlikely to receive anything from Hobby, we did a google search and have found the attached file from the European Commission. Seems that our van is affected. It shows all models subject to recall.

Have not had any recall notice but our motorhome seems to be one of of the ones affected.
Does anyone know who to contact in this country?

OP mentions taking it to his nearest dealer. We are just going to ring any Hobby dealer on Monday to arrange for a check to be done.

Just thought I'd report on the frustrations I've had this morning with this roof light recall.

As we will be in the Wareham area in a couple of weeks time, I looked on the Hobby UK website and found a dealer listed at Poole - very handy. However, when I rang this dealer (Essanjay) it turns out they haven't been Hobby dealers for a year now, due to a falling out with Hobby. Another dealer on the Hobby website list is CamperUK in Lincoln, who from a phone call a few months ago I know have also ceased to be Hobby dealers.

So I rang HobbyUK to point out that their dealer list is out of date, and to ask if there are any other new dealers in existence who don't appear on that list. The answer to this is no and that they have a total of 10 dealers in the UK. However, when I pointed out the (now) distinct lack of Hobby dealers in central southern England, the helpful lady I was speaking to mentioned that due to their lack of dealers the NCC had agreed to help them out by arranging for the recall work to be done through their network of Approved Workshops - of which there are hundreds across the UK. Great, I thought.

So next I rang Marquis at Poole - a major NCC Approved Workshop - to book an appointment for the work to be done. They knew nothing about any such arrangement.

So then I rang Hobby UK again. This time I spoke to a man who explained that although they had arranged with the NCC to email all their members about the recall, this couldn't be done until Hobby had agreed the price they would pay for the work. And Hobby Germany are currently on their annual shutdown and therefore not contactable. Apparently they sent out the recall letters and then promptly went on holiday for 2 weeks.

So there is no point in me trying to arrange anything about this recall for another 10 days at least. And what's the betting that the price Hobby will agree to pay for the work will be so tight that none of the NCC Approved Workshops will want to do it anyway?!

I've looked at the document from Mr Maz to see if mine is affected as I too have moved so haven't had any notification of a recall. Can you tell me where I find the information of the type / model number please? All my documents show a VIN and vehicle number but nothing that resembles the model numbers listed. Thanks

Me personally would have a look at the roof light to see if it can be removed easily enough and if so take it out and bond it back in place without going through workshop muppets (only speaking from my own personal experience of course)

Our understanding of the document I posted is that if you own a Hobby motorhome models :- Van, Van Exclusive, Van Exclusive L, Siesta, Siesta Exclusive, Toscana or Toscana Exclusive that was manufactured between 2007 and 2012 and you have a panoramic window above the driver's cab then you are affected.

Just an update.
Rang Hobby UK and said I am unable to find anyone to undertake the work under the NCC workshop list as advised by Hobby.
They have now arranged for National Windscreens to carry out the work at my home address.
I will post update when work is done.

Get it checked asap!

We have not had a letter and had not heard about the recall.....today travelling at less than 40mph ours flew off, missed the car behind and landed in the verge....embedding itself 4'' into the ground. We were very shaken by the very loud bang and the potential implications. Our 2.5 year old grandson spent the next 20 miles repeating 'That was a loud bang' and complaining about having to have his waterproof on! We drove to a Hobby dealer who said nothing about a recall and told us it could take 3 to 4 weeks to get one. Came home and trawled internet and got referred to this forum so thank-you all, have now joined so I could post my thanks. Have contacted Hobby UK but still waiting for a call back.

Hello and welcome:welcomesign: but what an introduction that must have been very frightening so glad no one was injured.
We have the same window in our hobby van and was waiting to hear, as nothing has arrived we will contact the nearest hobby place tomorrow.

A further udate.
National Windscreens came today.
2 guys in two vans. They were from the specialist glazing team.
This is the first one they had done. They're paperwork was very sketchy as to the requirements.
They sheeted the front of the van and set up a scaffold tower to access the roof light.
Took them about twenty minutes to decide how to remove the screen.
They set to work with their specialist tools and removed the roof light.
They found out that on one side the original glue sealant had not bonded properly.
They cleaned everything up and primed the surface.
On refitting they did away with the old rubber trim that left a small annulus around the roof light and fully sealed all the edges.
The finished job is superb.
These guys are real pros. And their attention to detail was very impressive.
I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

@grasscutter Thanks for that information. I rang a local dealer didn't seem very interested and talked about cracks when I mentioned glue didn't seem to know anything . They sell new hobby vans so I feel they should know and that aftercare may well be dire.
We will phone national windscreens. Did you claim or just pay ?

Sadly we no longer have a window to fit. Still chasing Hobby and hoping we make the ferry a week tomorrow!
MoHo currently looks like a chicken trussed for the oven, wrapped in tarpaulin...never let 2 climbers tie ropes round something.

I would not get anything done without go ahead from Hobby UK or a dealer on their website or you may not get money back Anthea.

Makes the reported damp problems with British vans sound minor. Window comes off when driving. Umbrella needed inside m/h. Risk of death to following motorists.:eek::confused:

Still, I have always liked Hobby myself. Will follow the thread with interest.(y)
