I am insured with them, both the van and the Toad, because I wanted to make sure the Toad was insured when on tow as well as driving it.

They are very reasonable. I cannot comment on how good they are as I have not had to claim, however the RAC European cover which they also supply was brilliant when our Toad broke down in Belgium.:thumb:

We have been using Comfort for our insurance from day one, some six years ago now. You need to bear in mind that on board possessions (except pots / pans and bedding) are not covered, bikes, tools, etc, will need to be covered by your Home Contents insurance. Portable gennies are covered (up to £500) and Sat / TV equipment is covered as an optional extra (even if fitted new as part of the vehicle)..... and not as part of the standard vehicle cover so read the policy carefully. We have always found their quotes to be competetive, they are underwritten by Aviva. Their knowledge of motorhome insurance is second to none in my opinion.
We have now insured our Smart car with them as they were quite happy with it being used as a toad and we also have our home contents policy with them. We will be taking out our travel/medical insurance with them when our current policy expires.

I also use Comfort for the van and also for my Home Insurance. Can get slightly lower quotes on the home policy, but prefer to use the same Insurer for both as my household policy covers goods away from home, and these will be in the van, so no argument as to who insures what in the event of a claim.

I have got a low quote from them, what I wanted to be sure of is that the company is ok and the cover is similar to what I have now, it doesn't just come down to the price.

Only I went through the broker on this site, and the guy didn't ask relevent questions before giving me the first quote, so not that confident in the broker.

Hi there,
When you are 50 like some round here, you can get a quote off of Saga and may be pleasantly surprised. They do breakdown cover too and home and car and escorted holidays and health :ROFLMAO:....... they do the lot. ALSO, when you phone you may have a little wait but they do not ask you to press awkward extra buttons (old people, hard of hearing fingers, phones = panic) making a sweeping judgement there:roflmto: which works for me too. Rather just press the hands free and wait for them to speak. So, just some more birthdays involved until you can give them a try! Jane

Hi,

With most things nowdays you really do need to ring around a number of differnt companies as there are numerous things that can affect the quote which can vary day by day from the same people.

You must also make sure that you are comparing like with like, as some of the companies like Safeguard automatically include full European use together with full European Breakdown Cover unlimited milage and weights upto 7.5 ton, albeit don't take my word for that double check with them, but it helps to illustrate my point don't just compare prices

Another point worth checking is whether to include breakdown cover with the insurance as it can sometimes be a lot cheaper to included it at the time rather than purchase bolt on cover afterwards or through a third party

Just make sure you know exactly what cover you want and then make sure that each of the companies quote you for that, as then you will hopefully have a direct comparison

Hope that helps

hi there nothing wrong with saga insurance we have use them in the past the only trouble we found with them is they will give you a good deal this year and when your renewal comes up the next year they put the price up sky high

Well if Aviva are underwriting it that's OK (what used to be Norwich Union in this country) BUT on broker schemes it is very much down to the brokers service. We came unstuck with a claim on a motorbike insured with NU via a 'very large' motorbike broker) Now it turned out they didn't deal with claims, you had to do it all yourself direct with the insurer. That was the first nasty surprise.

If I hadn't been an insurance broker myself I would never have believed it. Engineer verbally OK'd it and supplier (it was 6 wks old and the accident happened a mile from the dealer as we went back for the 500 mile service!) had started on the repairs when the NU claims dept (in Ireland) rang me to say they wouldn't be footing the bill as we needed to take it to the nearest authorised repairer in Alfreton (we live just outside Coventry) so I told her to ring the service manager at the dealer cos I wasn't listening. So she did, and he made her listen to him instead ....

Meanwhile I had rung the place in Derbyshire just out of interest - who told me they didn't do bodywork repairs - only mechanical - and if they were us, they thought we'd be far better taking it back to the dealer who would know all about how to repair it properly, as they didn't very often work on Triumphs.

18 months later, after the court-case, things were sorted. It leaves a nasty taste, esp after a no-fault accident - two middle-aged people up against a barrister from the other insurer. God bless the judge! - common sense prevailed.

I could go on - but I won't LOL

used Comfort once, I fell out with them - long story - and wouldn't go back at any price, however I know of a lot of people who think they are good and use them for other Insurance needs.
I now use Saga and find them excellent, they struggled to adapt to the special needs of motorhomes at first but now seem to be spot on.
also use them for car and house insurance - again - full marks

Re Saga, most companies tend to put the following years premium up. Not our experience with Saga so far. Finding it difficult to type whilst just touching wood and rubbing the old rabbits foot :ROFLMAO: Jane

Hi,

I think I read somewhere that with SAGA its worth checking as a new customer online before renewing the following years quote, as I believe there was a suggestion that sometimes it may be cheaper to sign up as a new customer rather than accept the renewal, hope that makes sense

We are with comfort and broke down in Spain and we could not fault them. The van was taken away for repair and we were picked up and taken to a hotel for two days.
We have been reading that they have upped the price for the Moroccan green card, this is the only thing that will put us off renewing.

I am now with Comfort but used to be with Safeguard. I had an accident a couple of years ago in Belgium which was not my fault at all, got backed into in a motorway service area, but, because Safeguard was having difficulty getting any money from the Belgian driver, it was considered to be my fault. Following year my Safeguard policy cost rocketed up. Went to the market but, because of the accident, most quotes were higher than Safeguard. The exception was Comfort, which was a lot cheaper, almost half the price of Safeguard. So that is why I am now with Comfort.

I have, fortunately, not had any accidents so far so can't tell you how good they are with that. But I did have to use their breakdown services last November and they were excellent.

I can echo that. Nice people to deal with and their breakdown insurance worked well but it was not a recovery job

Been insured with Comfort about 6 years now and had to make a claim after an accident in Portugal when I hit an overhead sun blind in Lidels punching a hole in the side of the van. Contacted Comfort and they passed me onto Aviva who offered to repair the van in Portugal but we preferred to bring it home, no problem

When we got home just one phone call and their guy called to see the van and it was in within days at the repairer of my choice and a very nice job they did too. I cant fault them at all

Rang Comfort a couple of days ago as our Safeguard renewal is due.
Unfortunately Comfort require a tracker for any vehicle value over £72k.
Having VanBitz's best fitted I don't fancy the several hundred pounds extra for a tracker, so it looks like I stay with Safeguard.
