Was looking at a pair of wheels with blow up tyres the other day here in NL and they were 84 Euros, Thats now about £80 so what does the genny cost to make

i bought Aldi's powercraft 2200 genny a couple of years ago.

cant remember how much but you get what you pay for.

never used it much but after 5 or 6 hours running time the ignition coil failed.

of course, it was still in warrenty but all they do is refund, not replace, unless you return it in a day or so, as they only have a limited stock.


i found the company who make them.......a wakefield or hudderfield company......and asked about a coil.

£9.99 for a complete coil pack

in comparison, one of the two coils failed on my westwood ride-on mower.....

£69 for one coil :Angry:

and dont believe the stated noise figures......they must be taken on idle 'cos they are noisy under load.

A couple of years ago I bought a similar priced genny from Makro.
This was not for use with the van ( I don't like to be antisocial ) but to keep central heating in the house running during power cuts (overhead supply - affected by weather).

The first time I used it the heating timer started to smoke and the circuit board in the boiler burnt out.
Total cost of using a cheap genny was over £500.00!!

Never again!

Its fine for power tools and lighting but not electronics.

Funny you should say that, I have a Robin genny which I very rarly use, but I noticed when I did use it the plug that I use to check polarity was acting very strange, giving allsorts of strange readings. Dosn`t happen with the onboard Onan though.

thats normal with standalone gennies dave.

something to do with a lack of proper earth.
connect it to a proper ground spike and the martindale will work fine:thumb:

Charles thats a big size , I have one of a similar size but 2.2 kw on wheels but to large to carry ( maybe a trailer ) but what would the other m/homers say ???????????????? but I paid more than three times that about 10 years ago...... what a good buy for somebody
