I have and have used a Nature Pure system in my self build but find the cost of a new cartridge rather high.

Now I have water storage tanks on QMJ, full of well water, I am thinking about building myself a sand filtering system for general water cleaning and while researching various designs, I came across the Berkley Black Filter systems for drinking water.

This one looks very suitable for my needs.

Does anyone have any experience with these type filters?

Looks OK JJ, are the filters much cheaper tha the Nature-Pure?

Apparently they last for years (23,000 litres) and they are around £100 for two.

If course it uses gravity, no pumping required, so isn't "instant" but can deliver a gallon and hour... enough for me! (y)

"A set of 2 Black Berkey water filters can last for up to 22,700 liters. At a usage of 38 liters per week, this is equal to 600 weeks, more than 11.5 years of purified water!"

Is filtered water purified?

Does well water need filtration?

What are you trying to remove from the water?

No matter where your well, spring or bore hole, you'll find Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Campylobacter or E.coli are common and should filtered for. Especially so if it's to be drunk by pensioners :)

Oi!

This pensioner has the constitution of a elephant whose stomach has been lined with cast iron...

Years of Fray Bentos pie eating has prepared it for anything.

Soon I might start eating the pies uncooked and still in the tin...
