Blaye is a nice aire with citadelle on the gironde.

Also try Coulon for cycling and walking or boat rides in the marais poitevin.

La rochelle worth a stop handy aire in the yacht basin.

I'd Include the aires at:

1. Sully-Sur-Loire
Excellent aire overlooking Loire river. Great little town with cafes, shops. Chateau by entrance to aire is worth a visit. Excellent for cycling along river to next town through villages(about 15/20km).

2. Mortagne Sur Gironde
A must if you’re in this area
(north of Bordeaux) on Gironde estuary. Great pitches but arrive early as very popular spot. Lots of flat cycling and walks. Pitch around the marina, watch the yachts come and go along the estuary.

I'd second the recommendation for Coulon also.

Enjoy,
John
