Have seen info about this on here before, but am curious as to how long the cola should be driven around in the waste tank before draining out.

Many thanks.

As long as possible while driving to slosh it around the tank.
Pour some in when you head for home after a break then empty at home...into a bucket if necessary.

I put a 2 litre bottle of cheap cola ( must be full fat NOT diet cola) into the waste tank before leaving on a trip and let it slosh about on the journey then just empty waste when you normally would, I do this every trip and since starting doing it have not had any nasty smells coming into the van via the sink plug holes, well worth the fifty odd pence the cheap cola costs.

Grey waste - wouldn't use it in the loo.
I wondered.
Tell me this , before buying our first motor home i watched so many videos on you tube about motor homes , most were american , now we have our own motor home the toilet is a cassette type and the MH has a fresh water tank and a grey water tank, yet in the videos the toilet tank was referred to as the black tank , do UK motor homes all use cassette toilets or do some have a separate under slung tank for the toilet.

Living the dream.
As far as I can tell its most likely to be a cassette in European Moho's and a black tank in American RV's.
We put a couple of litres of cheap Aldi Cola in our grey tank when empty before a trip then leave it in to be filled as normal.

You get the odd specialist Manufacturer such as RS who fit Black Waste tanks, In larger German Motorhomes they pretty much come as standard.

I have to say that having had both I wouldn't be without one, we can go about 8/9 days before we need to empty it, never had any issue emptying it either.
Oh, and no chemicals required and a internal flushing system to keep it fresh and clean, runs crystal clear at the end of the flush.

If you are really, really lucky (like me) you will have a van with a black tank underneath.

Thus you won't have to take your cassette to the dumping place all the time...

Another sensible system mostly done away with in these "modern" times...

A dollop of Ldil or Aldi bio washing liquid works for us, tried the coke & orange drink, didn't work at all.

Last time we bought some Cola it was about 17p for 2 litres from Morrisons, worked very well but you would not want to drink it.

Try popping a copper coin in a glass of coke overnight! and then wonder what it does to the lining of your Alimentary Canal !! Three or four litres in the Grey Waste is the only reason I would buy it.

I'm always amazed at how people spend 20-90k on a motorhome then faff around trying to save a few quid by buying cheap coke for the waste tank and washing tablets for loo!

I buy the proper stuff for both and haven't had to declare bankruptcy and I ain't minted!!!

I have a van conversion, so can't have a black waste tank, have to regularly empty the cassette.

Perhaps it's because like me they cannot abide the awful smell of "proper" stuff or have found that it doesn't work as described. BUT can't think of any reason why the same people will attack their 20-90k motor homes with Tcut, cif and other obnoxious stuff:)

Because they work faster/better/easier/and coincidentally a lot cheaper.
It's not really about cost though.
All the branded stuff is wonderful but having tried it I can say that we won't bother again and will always get bio washing liquid and cheap coke.

We don't use T Cut

If you have a quick look on Google there are loads of articles and videos about the various cleaning properties of Diet Coke. It's right up there with the best cleaning products you can buy.

The one thing I would never do is drink the bloody stuff :Eeek:

We use the cheap stuff in our grey tank once in a while. Just pour a couple of bottles in, some down each sink and the shower drain, then empty it at the next stop.

Works brilliantly for us (y)

It is Tank and sender suicide to Air dry the system. on each and every occasion a film of crud will dry on the inside leading to unnecessary build up.
Unless of course you can guarantee it being as clean as new, but of course you cant.
You obviously have a different opinion.
ps I did see the fishing rod, but newbie readers might not

As others have said, great for cleaning tarnished metal, especially copper and brass. I often use it.

I once had a vintage metal pen and ink holder with tarnished electroplating on it. I left it in the Coke too long and it stripped the plating off as well. I had to sell it as a copper vintage pen and ink holder.:)

Also good for cleaning golf balls that have been at the bottom of a water hazard for years on end.

Same reason why people buy houses for a whole lot more then try to run them economically. Do you also go for the most costly domestic phone, gas and electricity suppliers you can find?
