You can get a ferry from Genoa which cuts out a lot of driving. However, from my recent trip down to Puglia I can recommend the toll roads. Unlike France they are fairly cheap and generally with a good surface. There is lots to see on the way down which you will miss if you take the ferry. Or take the ferry back and drive there.

I'm back from Sardinia yesterday (fly drive).
I was checking out possibility for MH.

as far as North of Olbia is concerned, the roads are good and plenty wide enough and there are some spectacular sites on the emeral Coast. But research shows they are expensive (as in €80 a night) and they looked pretty full.

But I have to say the views from most of them would not disappoint..

Ps the locals are friendly!

Took MH there last year. Lovely island, larger than I expected. We average €10 / €15 per night on Aires and used ferry from Genoa. Overnight end just outside Genoa on the way and at the port in Olbia on way back.

We were there in May and June, as commented v xy for what you get on sites. One place Euro1 per 10 litres of water. We thought the island was beautiful and it is quite mountainous but we had no issues with our 9.2 mtrs.
Went Barcelona to Porto Torres and returned to Genoa after a complete circumnavigation of the island.

Seems like it's going to be expensive but she's worth it, judging by the replies looks like a beautiful place to visit and useful to know my 7.5mt van should be ok
If you don't mind me asking, how much was the ferry from barca and time taken and if you were to do it again would you use the same route, with work I only have 17 days
Thks

On Point Aven just arriving Plymouth and don't have my laptop but we had a cabin and it was circa Euro 300 each way. Depends on season size and cabin quality. We had deluxe type or junior suite and not a patch on the Point Aven as is their catering. May was chilly especially at night and lots not really open but I understand July and August is pandemonium.
