Afternoon all..

My gas locker door aluminium is showing signs of oxidation so I'm scraping it off and filling it in with body filler. I've done it successfully on flat bits but never before on the orange peel finish.

What if like to know is what I can use to make dimples in the filler to look like the orange peel finish that's already there.

Sensible answers together with the funnies please. :)

Thank you!

Here is what I have done many moons ago
I just got some plasticine and pushed it agin a good bit of the dimples.
I smeared the then dimpled side with butter ( could have been marge ! )
Use the filler as requires and then use the plasticine to mold the dimples

Could you layer on the filler then use a ball pein hammer to put the little dints in the filler. test it out on a scrap bit of wood 1st?

I like Jaws method, though. Makes complete sense to make a mould and then apply it

You can get that effect if you spray stone chip through a schultz gun.. may take a little messing around with the pressure and flow screw... I've often obtained that effect when I didn't want it..

If its only a locker door why not just replace the aluminium sheet ?

Ha ha Dave. You win the prize!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm liking the plasticine mould one and will give that a test later today. Yesterday I tried dabbing with the end of a pen but with only limited success

Geo, I didn't even know I could still buy a piece of orange peeL finish aluminium. Where would I buy it?

Thanks all.

Ive bought it on e bay before. or HERE for example
but we have an aluminium stockist near us now.
it comes cut to size or is easy to cut with scissors as its only 0.5 to 1mm thick right up to 8ftx4ft sheets
if you take the frame to bits you can insert a new piece over the existing like putting a card in a picture frame
you can even buy ready made 30mm thick boards with it already fixed to one side I would need to source a supplier for that myself though
I'd look at comercial body builders horse box manufactures Aluminium Stockests(Local to you)
