Cannot comment on Rapido, but our Hymer is on a 2002/3 Sprinter 316 chassis (LHD and 5-speed full automatic, not Sprint-shift). Very pleased with the way it drives and runs.

uses a type 4 engine or possibly a 2litre bosch d system fuel injection . i know them never seen one as a camper . but have used the engine in a type 2. even better buy one of my conversion plates n put a golf/passat/a80 motor in much quicker.thought we were talking about mercs .but prefer vw/porsche. more my cup of tea. think my site name gives it away. cheers alan.

Started in mid 70's for 10 years in Bedford Bedouins!
Rapido 914

I bought it! A 2002 Rapido 914M. Quite well used, but should "scrub up" well!
It is a bit more complex than my last motor home...a Bedford CF Bedouin (CI) from 1973! More swiches and "stuff" than you can shake a stick at, but no doubt all will be clear by reading the manual (Ho Ho!) Will keep you posted as to progress. Oh, it has a 2.8 diesel 5 pot with a brilliant auto box (just like the one I had on an Audi Quattro). For the reader who thought it was a Porsche, there was a 914/4 and a 914/6 never a 914/5!!!!
