We are looking for a campsite this weekend within a 40 mile radius from Tilbury docks towards the coast. Never been to this area and as we have to drop our son off. He is doing a marine engineering course, we thought to go somewhere and pick him up on the Sunday afternoon.
Really looking for somewhere with easy access to a village or town.

Thanks for your help.

Not sure you will get anything by the sea, campsite wise under 40 miles the one at southend/shoeburyness shut some time ago.

Allhallows near rochester I think has camping. Its about 35 miles away. Dont think its by the sea.

Chatham is worth visiting and the Chatham Dockyard is famous.

Further afield you have sheerness and leysdown which are both coastal resorts but not sure about any campsites or you could try Canvey Island.

Sorry dont go that way very often, but if you want to go a bit further, there is Margate, Whitstable and other pleasant beach locations along the kent coast.

Hope this is of some help.

If you are really stuck approx 28 miles away is the Lea Valley Campsite

website details here:-

Its clean and not very far from the Gunpowder mills which is an interesting day out, you could visit Waltham Abbey which is pleasant to wander around and the town is okay. You could visit Walthamstow Market or get a train into central London. There is also a car boot sale just down the road this weekend too.

Let us know where you decide to stay xxxx

Hi

There is a CL at Fobbing and one at Horndon on The Hill, both just off the A13, close to Baslidon, about 7 mls from Tilbury

from: Tilbury, Essex, UK to: Orsett Rd - Google Maps

Wrong side of the river but there is a nice CL at Gravesend - Mr Smith, The Conifers, Stony Corner Tel:01474703908/07932677968. EHU and reasonable facilities. Access roads a bit narrow.

There are campsites that are still open at Leysdown - Sheppey. However you can park up for free along the Shellness Road - just past the campsites and five minutes walk from the town.
There are quite a few places to wild camp around Sheppey and it's not far from Tilbury at all.
You will find a few decent laybys around the Lakeside shopping centre, we've done that once or twice.
There are a few sites around Maidstone but I'm not sure if they are still open. Your best bet would probably be Leysdown.
