Could work out costly in the end. What additives are needed for protection of seals and components and also for maintaining a clean fuel system. A diesel needs clean air and clean fuel. I personally would not risk it as any problems might not show until much later .

dont know about chevy engines but i emailed fiat and they say no more than 5% in a mechanical injection system and none in a common rail injection engine.
damage can occure to seals in the pump using bio diesel.

Well...If the old rotary aero engines ran on castor oil ok....And we used to used Castrol R when racing motorcycles (veggie based) I think it must be ok...

Model aero engines use castor based fuel too...and look how many revs/min they do?

Handling biodiesel is also very safe as this is non-toxic in nature and is biodegradable too. Using biodiesel does not cause any kind of difference in the performance of the engine. Another aspect like fuel consumption, engine torque, auto ignition etc. are also similar to the standard diesel.
Apart from these, using biodiesel is environment friendly because the carbon dioxide emission, caused by biodiesel is very low in comparison to the standard diesel or other alternatives. At the same time, biodiesel increases the life of the engine because the lubricating factor present in biodiesel is higher than other fuels. Biodiesel is also a good replacement for sulfur that is used as a lubricating agent.

hi Do, my IDI citroen has been happy on 90% WVO for about 30K .

I dont know enough about the chevy, but if its indirect injection and the pump has got some decent clearances I would say it should be ok..

preheating may help plus the usual things, oil / filter changes, keep an eye on fuel filter, tank pick up etc

It will only save money if it is refined waste vegetable oil and you remember to add a biocide to prevent dieselbug.

PS I have a refining plant for sale if anyone is interested PM me
