You could cross on the chain ferry at Sandbanks, then pull up at the side of the road. Loads of people do that.

We parked up there the other morning, pay by phone - its has signs saying no cooking (we pulled the blinds up while we made our coffee as there was an official looking bod taking pictures of a Landy that might not have paid and he sat in his van behind us - looked like he was willing us to start cooking :) )

Good heavens what is the world coming to. No wonder we no longer travel in England.

Actually I misread the post - we went the other way from Wareham to Sandbanks - there is a car park for the Ferry on the other side which does say no overnighting, however when we stopped there for Breakfast there was a Mhome there which looked like it had been there overnight. There were also some areas that looked like you could park up along the road though. We then caught the Ferry to Sandbanks and stopped for a Coffee. Getting on and off the Ferry the spare wheel carrier grounded slightly so need to be careful if you have a longer van.

If I recall correctly there is a yacht marina not too far from the port which might be suitable.

A 8.30 sailing would require a 6 am chain link just a guess do they run before 6am.
The last I heard was that overnight parking had been discouraged along the ferry road. Your local knowledge could possibly confirm this.

Well the 'discouragement' hasn't worked. Drove down Ferry Road last week and there were loads of motorhomes that had silver screens on the windscreen (so there for the night) :D

Purely out of interest, why would you need to arrive 2 hours 30 mins before sailing time? The check in closes at 45 minutes at most places, never sailed from Poole though.

Aug 09 to date 9,000 miles!
Don't start until 07.00 - from Sandbanks, so the first from Shell Bay the other way is 07.10 am. Last ferry is 23.00 from Sandbanks and back again at 23.10.

(Unless of course they have to wait for a twat trying to get into the harbour who doesn't see why he should give way ....... )

No in a bloody speedboat op speeding motorboat bearing down usually - most sailing boats who know the waters tack politely - unless the ferry signals them to come through!

I dont remember anything about arriving at the ferry 2.5 hrs before sailing. When did I say that? Take 45 mins from 8.30 would suggest latest possible arrival at ferry check-in desk time being 0745.(y)

What time is the first Chain link ferry from the Studland side, "the one that booking a place is not possible". It is a case of waiting for space. I have used this ferry early and it can get busy and pretty slow.:(

Have I seen you on that Luton airport tv program being turned away by Easy Jet for turning up late.......Excuse being that unexpected traffic hold ups.;)

Some time ago I was chatting to an NT person. He showed the frustration of the NT who own all the land around Studland Bay apart from a few feet either side of the Ferry road. The Ferry company own this strip of land and were not enforcing the no overnight rule. He said that the NT were fighting this. I have read since that overnight parking was now banned. Silver screens doesn't prevent getting a ticket.:)

You said you'd need to leave at 6, 6 from 8:30 is 2 and a half hours! It's only a 10 minute drive from Sandbanks to the port! Very confused!

Strange as it sounds....sandbanks is a ferry ride from Studland. Are you just reading the favorable parts. Still not found out the time the first ferry leaves Studland side. Any ideas.

Thanks BM even if he is lucky enough to get on the first ferry it is still going to be a bit of a task to get that 0745 check-in. Maybe DannyF will read this it will save him posting again.....:)
