When pumping up tyres the other day, noticed that the valve on one tyre continued to leak when pump removed or when TYREPAL sensor removed. Rung loads of local companies big and small and a couple of motorhome dealers. No one willing or able to help. Eventually ATS at Gloucester offered to look and order parts if necessary. Took it in and within seconds told me it was just the core that had become loose. Tightened it up, checked the pressure and all sorted at no charge. And all with a smile. I know it says a lot about my mechanical ability but I don't care, it's fixed!
Hope this may help someone else who knows nothing about anything and has a leaky valve.

Best to call it a tyre valve core removal thingy. Looks like a small thin screwdriver with a notch on the end. Just googled them. A variety available from about £4. Not to be confused with the same thing for cycles.

Old fashioned mechanical piston tyre gauges had one screwed into the end of the piston. Once again modern technology makes a backwards step. ;)

Oldest trick in the book - spit on finger, wipe over valve, look for bubbles.
Iv'e tried that Brian but see no bubbles, however if I shine a torch on my fingers I can see my blood

What was used to tighten it ?
Do we all need one for our clutter box, sorry, tool kit?

I use one of these to tighten valve cores.

certainly very useful. not quite as good on some m,bike wheels but on cars and trucks saves alot of work. a broken valve insert on a truck is hard work . removing it with out even undoing a wheel nut . then cleaning the internal thread can be a life saver .
they cab useful as a valve puller sometimes on tube types . mind you can get valve pullers on a chain for tractors etc another good tool.

Very pretty tool but all I have in the tool boxes ( several of them ! ) are the old style valve caps screwed on a bolt for ease of use :)

yes m,bikes can be a real trial.
i changed both tyres the other day on my 1500cc drifter . took almost 6 hours . i really struggled with the right angled valve tube on the rear wheel . the front wasnt so bad .
but never mind hopefully i might sell it before i wear the new tyres out . then suzuki tu grasstracker will be back on the road.
i have a valve remover tool that takes an 8mm spanner so ideal for m,bikes . shame it cant change the tyres for me ha ha .
