What do you guys do concerning the following:

we have 2 cars, mine and wifes, both insured to each other. But when we get our MH obviously we need to insure it.
So how does it work?

Do we lose the NCB bonus as its another vehicle? Will they allow us the NCB as we can only be driving one at a time? Or is there a kind of policy that will cover your everyday car as well as the MH?

Thanks guys.

The insurance industry is plain daft or desperate - they'll give you a good deal for new business.

This month I'm quoted £330 for my car, I log on to Churchill, reputable, for new business they quote £164 and they throw in breakdown cover.

Same with house, renewal quote £300+ I do the web thing, Saga £205, I phone Direct Line to cancel, "Oh, we'll give you last year's intro discount, £210 please"

That seems to be the way it works now, *but* there is less competition for MH so you'll have to try harder - we are on our second year with Safeguard ( Swinton ).

I haven't changed my insurance company for the last 6 years or so - that was when I bought my RV.

In those days I had a 65% no claims on my car - which I had to transfer to the RV, whilst I started a fresh no-claims policy on the car. It worked out quite a lot cheaper that way.

Nowadays I am still insured with the NFU for the RV and the car BUT I get a combined quote for both vehicles together with a loyalty discount - (I am not given a separate figure for either vehicle) - I am pretty sure that I now have 65% on both vehicles - so the NFU can give me a 'solo' quote.

We have 4 cars at the property all insured in different peoples names and allowing each to borrow each others with the exception of 17 year old.
When it came to insurance this year (before I had a motorhome) we tried Admiral multicar and are saving fortunes.
3 of the policyholders have full no claims (obviously not the 17 year old 18 next week if she doesnt answer me back again!)
When we bought our new motorhome I only contacted 2 people. One was the insurance factory 08445576006, They came straight in with £192 fully comp, limited mileage to 5000, 30 days foreign travel, £2000 internal theft and excess at £200. THey said if you try to get that beaten you wont but if you do quote them then we ll beat them.
I thought it would be rude not to try so rang up another company off the internet and told them the price they had to beat and they just said "We wont get near that". I didnt bother after that.
I think it was so cheap because of being new to them and they accepted my full no claims off of my car as welll as leaving with my car so now I have 2 Full NCBs and the other cars as well.
WOrth giving them a ring I would suggest

most companies including the caravan club and CCC offer an immediate discount to get you started. If they dont just find some one that does.. Our insurance is £200 ish fully comp. 4x the value of my car maybe even 6x but less than half the cost to insure.

Hi
The expression or phrase you need that is used in the insurance game whilst asking for a quote is
"And will you mirror my existing no claims bonus"
that means will they grant you the same bonus on the Motor home policy that you have earned on your car
they more often than not do so:thumb:

Aug 09 to date 9,000 miles!
It drives 'I' wild this, and me a retired insurance broker too! (never personal lines, would have driven me pottier even than I am anyway!)

We have a car each, Pete has no less than 3 motorbikes, and now we also have a M/H.

First problem some years ago - get 2 bikes insured on t'same policy at reasonable cost. OK - heaven forfend but if we were REALLY unlucky they could both suffer total loss in the same 'incident' at home - but never anywhere else, because as he is the only one with a m/c licence, they cannot physically be in the same place at the same time outside our home. And he cannot possibly ride more than one at the same time either. A0 he hasn't trained with the Purple Helmets in the first place and b) doubt if his legs would be long enough anyway. Etc etc etc. But it has always been the same, we HAVE to carry the certificates of ins on those 2 bikes because the MID only comes up with one, ie the first named. And if we get pulled, it makes for interesting discussions. 3rd bike is a bit of a classic and insured pretty cheaply on a specialist policy.

When it came to the M'H, having asked both of the main insurers, we just stopped trying and went for one who'd mirror the mahoosive NCD at the cheapest premium for the best amount of cover for what we thought we needed.

If you have to spend ages filling in forms for internet quotes and repaeating the same info a million times on the phone, you lose the will to live. So if you are reasonably happy with the premium, what it says on the tin and the excesses etc - then that one is the best deal for you at that time.....
