Soon be fetching the new van from Campirama. I've heard that some have been able to insure off the vin number to drive home but so far have not been able to find an insurer. Has anybody done it recently?

Campirama will drive it to the port for you then the only risk you take is in the port and on the ferry.
NFU, Scenic and Caravan guard will insure on a vin once on UK soil.

Cheers, it should have transit plates which give third party anyway. I'll give them a try.

It is only Germany that do transit plates with isurance.
Campirama use trade plates to drive to the port then leave a set of false Belgium plates on the van.
To be strictly legal you should drive it home without plates.

Question: Are you most likely to get stopped with?
a) Belgium plates
b) No plates

I'll let you decided & guess what I did.:)

I went through this last month ,NFU no longer do it on the vin unless you are already a customer ,AIb and safeguard will insure on the vin with strict rules regarding movement, got Belgian export plates at 350 euros which gave me third party cover for a month

Didn't know you could get Belgium export plates, Campirama have never offered them.
Did you risk it on 3rd party insurance?

Safeguard and AIB both offered me fully comp on the VIN, with 30 days to notify the UK registration.

Yes we risked it ,the 04 on the plates indicates that the insurance is only for April ,we had to provide passport and driver's licence ,it took 24 hours for the plates to arrive ,I drove very carefully
