We are heading off to France in a couple of weeks, first time with the van and the dog. Will be crossing via the tunnel, am planning on heading towards Le Treport for our first stop.

Wondering if there is somewhere to stop after exiting the train for a comfort break for the dog? Is there somewhere nearby that would do ?

Also does anyone know if dogs are allowed on the Funiculaire at Le Treport?

Thanks

I don't know of a particular place to stop with a dog but there's sure to a lay by along your route. Look for any sign with a tree and/or picnic table.

Dogs seem to be allowed anywhere in France as its a citizens right in law to have a pet companion. You can't be refused a hotel, B&B room, gite or rental property on the grounds you have a dog or cat.

There's a dog area near the shops in the tunnel complex folkestone side plus additional grass. Usually from queuing for train, getting on to driving off other side is no more than an hour/ hour and half so you should be fine to find a stop once you leave the tunnel anyway.

On thing we love about France is there's generally no shortage of laybys, service areas & picnic areas.

Could try the Aire des 2 Caps just a few miles (kilometres:p) along the road.
I have stayed overnight then walked dog across the field on a path, nice view over the channel.

Try to walk our Jamie before we get on the train and he seems to be happy for ages after (just sleeps in his cage whilst travelling). It's usually me what needs to stop first................!

Plenty of places to pull in if you have to and most supermarkets have a grass area. On the autoroutes you're never more than 20mins from a rest area.

We usually give ours 20 or 30 minutes in the dog exercise/play area in the terminal before leaving no matter which direction we're going then they're good for a few hours so no need to stop as soon as we get out the other end.

Thanks for the responses, it's funny we have been to France many times (not in van or with the dog), we have been away many times with the dog and the van in the UK, but when you combine dog, van and France we begin to question lots of little things.

We almost tried to plan our stops last night  after an hour or 2 we realised we never do this in the UK where perhaps we should, in theory in France it should be easy. Picked out Le Treport as within 2 hours (first night's stop) and always wanted to go there then heading down to the Dune of Pilat.

Geza will be most pleased we have confirmed we can stop for a comfort break :) and he can go on the train which he will hate.
