TISSINGTON TRAIL ADVICE (1 Viewer)

Hi Funsters,
We are going to do some cycling around Derbyshire, in particular The Tissington Trail in June and would like some tips/advice for the best places to park our MH where we could also stay overnight.
We have just returned from ten weeks travelling around southern Spain - wild camping and campertstops. Parking anywhere not a problem!
We have no real idea about similar in the UK, but
I'm sure there's a Funster or two that have some experience and information that may help.(Tissington Trail access/parking important) Thank you in advance!

if you want a proper campsite - rather than wild camping - try Rivendale on the ashbourne buxton road. tissington trail goes past the front door.

Washbrook farm is C&CC CL site. Last year we stopped there for two nights at £8 per night.
About 75 metres from the entrance is the Tissington Trail, turn left for Ashbourne, turn right for Tissington.
Its only got hard standing for about 8 units and you have with /without elect hookup.
We had a great time on our bikes.

There's an adult only site in Longnor. Just up the road between longnor village and Hartington are two places to join the trail, ones an old railway station come cafe now and the other just past Hartington on the hill is a railway signal box, both have parking available and toilets.

A nicer ride is a few miles away, the route round Carsington Water.

at the entrance road carrsington water there is a basic site or further on a caravan club site. for tissington there are loads of cl.s in the area.

A nicer ride is a few miles away, the route round Carsington Water.

A pleasant ride for sure but I wouldn`t say nicer.
There are a number of cycle trails in the area, Monsal Head Trail and Manifold Valley Trail being two. Google Peak District Cycle Routes for more info

My only piece of Advice.

When we did it, I wore a younger mans shoes (NO! not someone elses)
We rode from Tissington to Ashbourne and then back.
From memory, it's about 13mls. The thing is, from Tissington to Ashbourne, it's downhill albeit 1/100 gradient.

You will rue the decision because, on the way back, 1/100 doesn't sound a lot but for 13mls it might as well be Alp D'Huez. I was crying for the last couple of miles for the torture to end.

Have you looked at the Monsal Head trails? Opened recentish + takes you through the old railway tunnels? Starts near to Bakewell.
& have you heard of Britstops, if you didn't want campsites.

Have just back in the house from a weekend cycling around the same area, have done the tissington trail many times over the yrs, especially when the kids were small and to be honest i find it a little boring, most of the scenery on the tissington trail is blocked by trees, try Parsley Hay, we rode 50 miles today and only came back as our asses were sore, lots of little shops,villages,pubs along the way plus if you like wild camping we found lots of places today you can stop at

After meeting @Gloombusters here in Totana there's nothing on an old railway line that would be difficult for them!
